The most powerful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their goal is to refuse to accept anything less than completion. At Alpha, students complete their academic work through AI-powered applications. No lectures. No textbooks. Half your day is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics like public speaking, focus, and how to give and receive meaningful feedback. The other half, you work with students one-on-one or in small groups, analyze their progress via Coachbot analytics, and drive each of them toward 100% completion of their weekly app goals. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops serve as a foundation, but top performers in this role modify them and create new content when needed.

A successful quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90% report that they love you. Fall short on any of those three measures, and you've missed the mark. In your first year, you will master the playbook; as you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards, the opportunity to advance to Lead Guide opens up, where you mentor new hires while continuing to work directly with students.

What You Will Be Doing

• Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts on topics including public speaking, focus, feedback, and other foundational competencies, modifying the playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a need
• Conducting daily one-on-one and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student to 100% completion of their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your individual relationship with each student to overcome resistance
• Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based assessment) for each life skill, and working with students who do not pass until they achieve mastery
• Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing candid conversation and accountability
• Serving as the adult who maintains high expectations and the adult students trust and want to confide in; warmth creates the foundation for pushing, and pushing communicates your confidence in their potential
  
  

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Delivering instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is managed through the apps, not by you
• Building curriculum from the ground up; you animate an established playbook with energy and narrative
• Passively monitoring students on computers; motivation in this role is active, individualized, and persistent
• Reducing a weekly goal to make it easier for a student to achieve; when a student falls behind, the solution is coaching the student, not adjusting the target
• Grading assignments, running standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the rest does not apply here
  
  

Coach Key Responsibilities

Ensure every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning goals, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting that they loved you.

Basic Requirements

• Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT; or Toronto, Canada (relocation support available)
• Bachelor's degree in any field
• At least 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
• A concrete example you can share of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the goal itself, your actions, and the result
• Willingness to allow AI to manage instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching
• Daily use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
• Legal authorization to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto campus)
  
  

Nice-to-have Requirements

• Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectives
• History of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that maintaining rigorous standards for others is a consistent practice, not an adopted stance
• Storytelling ability and stage presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
• Demonstrated success converting disengaged or reluctant students into active, participating learners

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $50 USD/hour, which equates to $100,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
