What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP of Field Operations, 2 Hour Learning - $200,000/year USD position at Crossover?
You step onto a campus and immediately spot what others miss — the ceiling tile hanging loose without a work order, the HVAC unit making noise for days, the landscaping crew that billed for work they didn't complete. You fix problems before families notice they existed.
That ability defines this role. 2 Hour Learning runs high-end K–12 campuses where parents expect an environment that is secure, consistent, and guest-ready every single day — not only when events are scheduled. You will maintain that expectation across the Northeast: Manhattan serves as your home base, with consistent travel to locations in CT, MA, and PA. Your execution determines whether a campus maintains its premium quality or deteriorates quietly between leadership visits.
Year one focuses heavily on establishing standards and vendor accountability — defining what "campus-ready" means, implementing the inspection rhythm, removing non-performing vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to operate on repeatable systems. Once the region expands and your operating model is proven, the role evolves into sustained regional oversight: you become the operator the organization turns to when launching a new site, managing a crisis, or revising a standard.
This is a boots-on-the-ground position. If you prefer managing remotely through reports, this isn't the right fit. If you want direct control over whether 25 campuses maintain premium standards daily — and the authority to enforce that outcome — continue reading.

What You Will Be Doing
- Executing scheduled on-site inspections across Northeast locations using documented benchmarks for cleanliness, HVAC performance, safety protocols, security systems, signage quality, landscaping, furniture condition, and guest-readiness — then converting inspection findings into confirmed corrective work
- Responding to facility breakdowns and urgent situations, deploying vendors as needed, and marking issues resolved only after on-site verification (urgent response within 24 hours, standard resolution within 1 week)
- Overseeing local vendor delivery against service agreements, removing vendors with repeated failures, renegotiating contract terms, and conducting direct accountability discussions on both quality and pricing
- Establishing a consistent weekly operational rhythm with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure campuses run on documented systems rather than individual effort
- Executing significant campus improvement projects (HVAC replacements, interior updates, landscaping overhauls, AV/network installations) on time and within budget while minimizing student disruption
- Documenting organization-wide standards and AI-supported procurement workflows (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance systems, and centralized vendor sourcing) to ensure uniform campus launch and operation
- Delivering concise weekly written updates on regional quality metrics, vendor performance, escalated issues, and capital expenditure tracking
- Operating remotely through dashboards — this position demands frequent on-site presence at Manhattan and 20–40% travel time to regional campuses (CT, MA, PA)
- Architecting new campus layouts or managing new construction projects — capital development is handled by a separate function
- Creating enterprise procurement policy without ground-level validation — your standards emerge from direct campus observation
- Working within tidy organizational charts with direct authority over all contributors — you will establish accountability through documentation, written follow-through, and rejecting ambiguous vendor commitments
- Treating "guest-ready only during leadership visits" as acceptable — persistent problems require root cause resolution, not repeated ticketing
- Defaulting to crisis response mode — the inspection schedule and predictive maintenance tools exist to identify failures before they generate complaints

Basic Requirements
- Located in New York City or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- 5 years leading multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations
- Demonstrated success managing vendor-delivered services for quality, cost control, and SLA compliance across multiple sites
- Hands-on experience addressing urgent facility problems (safety, HVAC, security, cleanliness) with measurable impact on customer experience
- Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, weekly regional quality summaries
- Working knowledge of contemporary operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance, AI-enhanced procurement or planning)
- Multi-site leadership experience in premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 education, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele
- Background building or overhauling a regional operations model that previously depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
- History of terminating underperforming vendors and developing a reliable local vendor network
- Experience delivering capital improvement projects (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing facilities
- Familiarity working in AI-enabled operations where automated playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine tasks so staff concentrate on decision-making
