What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $120,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay; full health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
- On-site role at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance available)
When a student reaches 99% of their goal, the most supportive response is to hold the line and refuse to call it complete. If that standard feels uncomfortable, this role is not the right fit. If it energizes you because you know that holding the bar high is how you signal belief in a student's capability, read on.
At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. There are no lectures or textbooks. Approximately 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics like public speaking, focus, and the exchange of constructive feedback. Around 30% is dedicated to individual and small-group sessions where you review student progress via Coachbot analytics and drive each student toward their weekly app targets. The remaining 10% involves analyzing data to inform the following week's coaching strategy. You will not be following a rigid script; workshops provide a foundation, and top performers in this role customize them and create new content when gaps arise.
A successful semester means at least 90% of students in your cohort meet their weekly app goals, demonstrate measurable improvement in life skills on Test2Pass, and rate their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role has not been fulfilled. As you demonstrate your ability to maintain high standards, you become eligible for advancement to Lead Guide — mentoring newer Guides while continuing to manage a cohort — and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage parent engagement.
If you prefer traditional teaching methods, expect a fully prepared curriculum, or see warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring students who wanted to quit, or performing in front of middle schoolers, the final stage before receiving an offer is spending a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts on subjects including public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other foundational skills, modifying the existing playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a need
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions designed to drive every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your personal relationship with each student to overcome resistance
- Administering Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based life-skill assessment) and coaching students who do not achieve passing scores until they succeed
- Tailoring your coaching approach to suit a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
- Analyzing weekly cohort performance data in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and refining your coaching tactics for the next week based on data insights
- Delivering instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is embedded in the apps, not delivered by you
- Creating an entire curriculum from scratch; you begin with a tested playbook and personalize it with your own style and narrative approach
- Passively monitoring students on computers; motivation in this role is active, personal, and continuous
- Working through bureaucratic processes to secure resources for students in need; if a student requires additional coaching time, you decide and implement immediately
- Grading assignments, running standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this model
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, masters each life skill, and finishes the year reporting that they valued their time with you.
