Alpha students don't absorb information through traditional lectures. They master academics via AI-driven adaptive software at their own speed, frequently completing an entire grade level within weeks. Your role encompasses everything the software cannot provide: guiding children through setbacks, teaching them to offer constructive feedback, maintaining standards they didn't believe they could reach, and ensuring they're excited to arrive each day. You'll facilitate interactive life skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and time management, followed by motivational sessions designed to inspire authentic engagement rather than mere compliance.
This is not a traditional classroom environment. You'll support a small group of K-12 students who recognize you personally. You'll monitor their development using Coachbot analytics, identify when someone encounters obstacles, and train them to problem-solve independently. When 100% of your students achieve their weekly targets and 90% provide positive feedback in surveys, you'll see evidence that the model succeeds because you executed it effectively.
Guides who excel with their cohort advance to Lead Guide positions — mentoring fellow Guides and influencing how an entire campus fulfills Alpha's mission. Alpha continues launching new campuses, and those who establish excellence standards today will be the ones scaling operations tomorrow. If you've never contemplated a career in education but believe you could alter a child's path, this is where that conviction becomes your profession. Apply now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-12 students on subjects including public speaking, focus techniques, and providing feedback: interactive, project-driven sessions where you're engaging dynamically, not delivering lectures
- Supporting a small student cohort daily by leveraging Coachbot analytics and individual student profiles to establish personalized goals, monitor application progress, and encourage continuous advancement
- Administering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to confirm students have genuinely acquired the skill, rather than simply attending the session
- Building relationships with students as individuals: discovering their passions, identifying what drives each one, and tailoring your coaching methods accordingly
- Maintaining quality standards: achieving 100% weekly goal completion rates and sustaining 90% student satisfaction ratings in your surveys
- Instructing academic content. Students acquire math, reading, and science knowledge through adaptive applications. You will never use a whiteboard to explain mathematical concepts.
- Creating lesson plans independently. Alpha supplies a structured life skills curriculum and implementation guides. Your responsibility is to execute them effectively, not design them from the ground up.
- Evaluating assignments, conducting parent-teacher meetings, or overseeing standardized testing. There are no report cards to complete and no state examination preparation required.
- Supervising students passively while they use computers. When a student encounters difficulty, you coach them toward self-resolution. Passive observation contradicts the nature of this role.
- Compromising standards when a student resists. The motivational framework depends on upholding rigorous expectations, not adjusting them when situations become challenging.
Guide a cohort of K-12 students who are enthusiastic about learning, progress rapidly through adaptive software, and develop essential life skills via dynamic workshops.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (in professional or organized volunteer capacities such as coaching, camp counseling, or youth development programs)
- Available to work in-person at an Alpha School campus in one of these cities: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background as an athletic coach, theater director, debate instructor, or camp program coordinator where you inspired children to excel, not merely participate
- Demonstrated history of exceptional personal achievement (academic, athletic, or professional) that students and parents view as credible
- Confidence presenting to groups: the type of presence that captivates a room of twelve-year-olds without needing to elevate your voice
- Experience with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms (such as Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
