At Alpha, students don't experience traditional lectures. They advance through academics via AI-powered adaptive software at their own speed, frequently finishing an entire grade level in weeks. Your role is everything the software cannot provide: guide students through frustration, train them to deliver feedback, hold them accountable to standards they didn't believe they could reach, and make them excited to show up. You'll facilitate hands-on life skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and time management, then lead motivational sessions where the objective is authentic engagement, not obedience.
This isn't a traditional classroom. You'll support a small cohort of K-12 students who know your name. You'll monitor their development through Coachbot analytics, identify when someone's struggling, and guide them toward self-sufficiency. When 100% of your students achieve their weekly targets and 90% give you high ratings in surveys, you'll see the model succeeding because you executed it.
Guides who excel with their cohort advance to Lead Guides — mentoring other Guides and influencing how an entire campus fulfills Alpha's commitments. Alpha is launching new campuses, and the individuals who establish excellence today become those who replicate it at scale tomorrow. If you've never thought about working in education but believe you could alter a child's path, this is where that conviction becomes your career. Apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops with K-12 students covering topics like public speaking, focus, and delivering feedback: hands-on, project-based sessions where you're engaging actively, not lecturing
- Guiding a small cohort of students each day, leveraging Coachbot analytics and student profiles to establish individualized targets, monitor app progress, and challenge every student to move forward
- Preparing and administering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to confirm students have genuinely acquired the skill, not merely attended the session
- Building relationships with students as individuals: discovering their interests, identifying what drives each one, and adjusting your methods to match
- Maintaining the quality standard: 100% of students reaching weekly targets, 90% student satisfaction ratings on your surveys
- Teaching academic content. Students advance through math, reading, and science using adaptive apps. You won't stand at a whiteboard teaching long division.
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up. Alpha supplies a life skills curriculum and playbooks. Your responsibility is to execute them effectively, not design them from scratch.
- Grading assignments, conducting parent conferences, or overseeing standardized tests. There are no report cards to complete and no state test preparation to manage.
- Supervising kids passively on computers. When a student encounters difficulty, you guide them on how to resolve it themselves. Passive observation is the antithesis of this position.
- Compromising standards when a student resists. The motivational framework is designed around maintaining high expectations, not creating exceptions when tension arises.
Guide a cohort of K-12 students who thrive at school, progress rapidly through adaptive software, and develop life skills through dynamic workshops.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- At least 3 years of experience working directly with K-8 students (professional or structured volunteer roles such as coaching, camp counseling, or youth programs)
- Willing to work in-person at an Alpha School campus in one of these locations: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
- Legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Experience as an athletic coach, drama director, debate coach, or camp program leader where you inspired kids to excel, not just show up
- History of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional) that students and parents view as credible
- Ease performing before groups: the type of presence that commands a room of twelve-year-olds without needing to raise your voice
- Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or ed-tech tools (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
