What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- Based on-site at an Alpha School campus (Chicago, IL
- Miami, FL
- Palo Alto, CA
- Piedmont, CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Santa Monica, CA
- Lake Forest, CA
- Greenwich, CT
- Boston, MA; relocation assistance available)
- $120,000/year with weekly pay. Health, dental, and vision benefits begin on day one
- Structured hours aligned with the school-year calendar
Alpha operates differently than traditional schools. Academic learning happens through adaptive software tailored to each student's current level and pace. There are no whole-group lectures or standardized worksheets distributed to 25 children. Instead, each student progresses through individualized learning applications while you, as their Guide, support them through challenges: maintaining focus when difficulty increases, working through frustration, and recognizing genuine mastery rather than simple participation.
Your day begins with motivation sessions: analyzing each student's progress within their learning apps, establishing daily objectives, and identifying the appropriate motivator for each child. That might mean a leaderboard competition, school currency incentives, or a focused conversation about their potential. Afternoons transition to life skills workshops where you facilitate instruction in public speaking, focus techniques, and giving and receiving feedback through project-based, experiential activities. You'll administer mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) where students demonstrate internalized understanding of each skill rather than passive exposure. Throughout, you're guiding emotional regulation, resilience, and problem-solving with consistent expectations and genuine support.
Guides who excel in this role advance to Lead Guide positions, mentoring teams of Guides while maintaining direct work with their own cohort. The progression from "I transformed the trajectory of these 15 children" to "I'm developing the team that impacts hundreds" is concrete and achievable. If traditional education never appealed to you but you recognize that ages 4 through 7 establish lifelong patterns — submit your application.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating daily motivation sessions with K-2 students: analyzing Coachbot analytics, establishing individualized objectives, and applying Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, 1-on-1 coaching) to achieve 100% goal completion
- Leading one-hour life skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and time management through hands-on, project-based instruction aligned with Alpha's curriculum playbook
- Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and problem-solving development in coordination with Reading Specialists who manage literacy instruction
- Conducting Test2Pass mastery assessments requiring students to demonstrate internalized understanding of each life skill before progression
- Developing authentic relationships with each student through understanding their interests, capabilities, and challenges, ensuring your coaching remains personalized rather than formulaic
- Delivering traditional lectures or providing direct academic instruction. Academic learning occurs through adaptive applications, not instructor-led teaching.
- Creating original curriculum materials. Alpha supplies the life skills curriculum and lesson frameworks; your role is execution and facilitation.
- Advancing students who haven't achieved mastery. A 99% result means coaching to 100%.
- Supervising passive computer time. Every moment is organized around active coaching, motivation, and skill development.
- Handling parent communications or campus-wide administration. Those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead.
Guide a cohort of K-2 students who thrive in their school environment, progress through adaptive learning at double the conventional rate, and achieve proficiency in core life skills.
