What are the responsibilities and job description for the Startup Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- Based on-site in Austin, TX (support for relocation available)
- $150,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Full health benefits from day one.
You'll be working with high school students who are building legitimate companies with $1M growth potential. These are not classroom exercises or mock scenarios. Approximately 60-65% of your time will be dedicated to individual coaching sessions: pinpointing where each founder is facing obstacles, determining the most impactful next step, and ensuring accountability to a defined action plan. The remaining 35-40% will be divided between overseeing academic performance and facilitating workshops designed to equip students with practical, actionable skills—not just theoretical knowledge.
This role is not conventional teaching. You are accountable for comprehensive student outcomes: venture development, academic performance, and personal maturity simultaneously. You will leverage dashboards, business metrics, and academic records to coach with data-driven clarity rather than guesswork. When a student's grades begin to drop? You step in before it escalates. When a venture loses momentum? You identify the underlying issue, not the surface-level one.
You'll begin by understanding each student's business, their individual capabilities, and the areas where they struggle. Within a few months, you become the advisor whose challenge they genuinely respect—because you've operated in the real world yourself. The payoff is witnessing a 16-year-old arrive with an idea and depart with a working enterprise, the self-discipline to sustain it, and academic results that preserve future opportunities.
If you've been seeking a position where your operational background directly influences the next wave of entrepreneurs, submit your application now. If you require a rigid syllabus, a conventional classroom setting, or a role where effort alone is rewarded, this is not the right fit.
What You Will Be Doing
- Providing 1:1 coaching to student founders on strategy, execution, and scaling challenges — approximately two-thirds of your weekly hours
- Leveraging student dashboards, venture updates, and academic metrics to assess progress and identify actionable next steps
- Tracking academic results and stepping in proactively when attention or time management begins to falter
- Designing and delivering workshops with tangible, applied-learning outcomes
- Facilitating stand-ups, debriefs, and team discussions that hold students accountable to their commitments
- Teaching traditional lectures or adhering to a fixed curriculum (you enable hands-on learning, not classroom-based instruction)
- Offering broad mentorship or inspirational messaging without concrete action plans and follow-up
- Handling student administration—scheduling, documentation, or enrollment processes
- Attending faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy (your focus remains squarely on student outcomes)
Guide student founders in building ventures with $1M potential while ensuring they remain academically on track.
