Performance Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD

Crossover
Scottsdale, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 7/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/19/2026
  • On-site role at an Alpha campus in Austin, TX or Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ — support for relocation available
  • $150,000/year
  • Full-time

Traditional elementary schools reduce expectations when children fall behind. Your approach is the opposite. You hold the conviction that six-year-olds are capable of significantly more than conventional classrooms demand, and you have leveraged data multiple times to demonstrate it.

Alpha operates on a two-hour learning framework. Morning academic instruction is delivered through adaptive applications, freeing your schedule for the interventions that genuinely transform a child's trajectory: motivation coaching, life skills development, and accountability practices. You take direct ownership of a K-3 cohort while simultaneously coaching the Guides—Alpha's designation for the adults who mentor and inspire students—who are responsible for their day-to-day growth. Your leadership is rooted in daily, hands-on engagement rather than remote oversight.

Your typical workday revolves around three core activities. You analyze performance metrics and Coachbot data to identify students and Guides who need intervention. You conduct targeted coaching sessions that conclude with concrete action steps rather than general affirmation. And you lead workshops for groups of five- to nine-year-olds covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and how to give and receive feedback effectively.

When you identify effective methods, you document them. The systems you create set the benchmark that all other Guides follow, extending your influence beyond a single cohort to the entire grade level. Demonstrating your ability to replicate this excellence is the pathway to expanded leadership responsibility.

If you view lowering standards as compassionate, this role is not suitable. If you see raising them as a form of respect, you should apply.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Using performance metrics, direct observation, and structured feedback to coach both Guides and students, then maintaining accountability to defined, measurable targets
  • Leading one-hour live workshops for K-3 students focused on life skills including public speaking, concentration, teamwork, resilience, accountability, and feedback exchange
  • Conducting individual and small-group motivational sessions that align each child's personal interests and aspirations with tangible academic outcomes
  • Developing and iterating on playbooks that convert your most effective practices into scalable systems that other Guides can implement reliably
  • Training Guides on these playbooks and demonstrating excellence in facilitation to ensure quality remains consistent as the team expands

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Teaching academic content or presenting lessons from the front of the classroom; adaptive technology handles instruction while you focus on coaching people
  • Reducing standards when students encounter difficulty
  • Managing from a distance in the manner of traditional instructional coaches or school principals; you remain embedded with your cohort every day
  • Managing campus-wide budget, operations, or parent communications; those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead so you can concentrate on student and Guide performance
  • Advocating for conventional teaching approaches or adhering to a standard K-12 curriculum

Performance Coach Key Responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's three commitments to every K-3 student: they develop a love for school, achieve learning outcomes at twice the typical rate, and cultivate outstanding life skills and autonomy.

Basic Requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Austin, TX or Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; support for relocation is available
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, Organizational Leadership, Child Development, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years working with elementary-age children (approximately ages 5 to 9)
  • History of leading a team of at least 5 people, with decision-making authority to hire and terminate based on performance results
  • Track record of building, launching, or substantially expanding a program, team, school, or initiative from inception, rather than managing an established operation
  • Willing to work in an educational environment that rejects conventional teaching methodologies
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline
  • Proven ability using data systems, dashboards, or analytics to identify issues and produce quantifiable improvements
  • Background coaching or managing other adults to achieve specific, measurable results rather than performing tasks directly
  • Experience in youth development, camp leadership, competitive coaching, tutoring, or enrichment programs where motivating participants was a primary focus
  • Demonstrated skill facilitating sessions or speaking publicly to large groups of young children
