What are the responsibilities and job description for the Literacy Program Coordinator, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at an Alpha campus in Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA (relocation assistance available)
- $120,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
- Daily instruction enhanced by AI-driven tools and adaptive learning technology
Alpha's reading model operates on one principle: intentionality in every minute. Your 20-minute workshops respond to what individual students require now, not what a scope-and-sequence assumes they need. You'll evaluate reading capability, organize targeted small groups, and provide high-impact structured literacy instruction—phonics, fluency, comprehension—to students aged 4-7, advancing their skills measurably each week. AI-driven adaptive technology works beside you, producing performance insights you'll apply to refine tomorrow's instruction before today's session concludes.
This position evolves with you. Your first year centers on direct instruction: facilitating workshops, leading engagement sessions that transform hesitant readers into motivated learners, and sharing detailed classroom observations with the technology team improving Alpha's AI literacy platform. As these tools expand and your input influences their design, your influence reaches beyond your immediate students. You'll contribute to a scalable reading framework that applies what works for 15 children to systems serving hundreds.
If your career has been built proving structured literacy's effectiveness and you're prepared to combine that knowledge with technology that multiplies your reach, this role removes the ceiling your classroom once imposed.
What You Will Be Doing
- Creating and facilitating 20-minute reading workshops informed by your diagnostic evaluation of each student's current reading ability and skill gaps
- Applying AI-generated performance insights to modify group composition and instructional priorities between sessions, not only at scheduled review periods
- Leading engagement sessions designed to cultivate genuine reading motivation through developmentally appropriate gamification and personalized goal-setting with K-2 learners
- Piloting AI literacy platforms during live instruction, then delivering structured, actionable feedback to technology developers regarding tool effectiveness and limitations
- Monitoring quantifiable progress indicators (fluency growth, decoding advancement, accuracy rates) and leveraging those metrics to iterate on your instructional methods weekly
- Implementing a pre-packaged or scripted reading curriculum. You assess student needs and build instruction independently.
- Conducting 60-90 minute traditional literacy blocks. Instruction sessions are brief, targeted, and intensive.
- Limiting instruction to below-grade-level readers. You'll work with all K-2 students across the full range of abilities.
- Using technology occasionally or as a supplement. AI adaptive tools are embedded in your everyday instructional practice.
- Delaying instructional changes until scheduled data cycles. You'll respond immediately to what current performance data reveals.
Advance early elementary students to grade-level reading proficiency through adaptive, AI-supported structured literacy instruction.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (any subject)
- Master's degree in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)
- 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical setting within the last 5 years, using systematic phonics or structured literacy
- Capability to independently design reading lessons and articulate your instructional methods and content without depending on a commercial program
- Commitment to on-site work at an Alpha campus (Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA; relocation assistance available)
- Readiness to integrate AI and adaptive learning tools into daily practice and adjust as platforms develop
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
- Proficiency with diagnostic reading assessments (e.g., DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) used to form differentiated instructional groups
- Documented student reading improvements you can describe with concrete data (e.g., advanced 12 students from Level C to Level G within one semester)
- History of partnering with edtech teams, product developers, or instructional design teams on tool creation or refinement
- Experience in startup, micro-school, or non-traditional educational settings where you developed systems instead of implementing existing frameworks
