What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life Skills Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site in Houston, TX—campuses located in Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands (relocation assistance available)
- $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full day's worth of academics in roughly two hours using adaptive software. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Your role centers on what technology cannot replicate: developing life skills in Pre-K through 8th grade students—skills like public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. You'll spend half your time facilitating hands-on workshops guided by structured playbooks and narrative techniques. The remaining half involves working with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress through Coachbot analytics from adaptive learning platforms, and ensuring they reach 100% of their weekly objectives. Students demonstrate mastery via Test2Pass assessments rather than participation-based grading.
During your first year, you'll oversee a student cohort and become proficient in Alpha's methodology: life skill workshops, motivational coaching sessions, and mastery-based evaluation. Once you consistently guide every student to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction scores above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—a role where you mentor other Guides while remaining directly engaged with students. The most effective people in this position don't merely transform individual trajectories; they influence how an entire campus functions.
If you've spent years coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and wished you could eliminate traditional instruction to concentrate on their genuine development, this opportunity is designed for you.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and feedback exchange (experiential and project-oriented)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivational sessions where you analyze each student's adaptive learning app progress (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and ensure they reach 100% of their weekly benchmarks
- Overseeing and assessing Test2Pass evaluations to verify students have genuinely mastered each life skill rather than simply attended
- Adjusting your coaching approach across diverse age groups, from Pre-K learners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversation and responsibility
- Establishing authentic connections with each student so they trust you sufficiently to receive coaching through obstacles, distraction, and uncertainty
- Delivering lectures or conventional academic instruction (students acquire core subjects through adaptive applications, not through your teaching)
- Creating lesson plans or curriculum independently (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with enthusiasm and narrative skill)
- Handling parent communications or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage those areas; you remain concentrated on your students)
- Evaluating homework or coordinating standardized test preparation (these elements don't exist in our model)
- Operating independently (you belong to a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student in your cohort enjoys school, achieves proficiency in critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning technology.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years of direct experience working with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your actions, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Available to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp direction, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined goals
- History of significant personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive athletics, or leadership positions requiring sustained high performance)
- Innate storytelling capability: you can maintain the attention of a room full of 12-year-olds for an hour without increasing your volume
- Success motivating unmotivated or reluctant students and converting them into engaged participants
