At Alpha, students don't absorb information through traditional lectures. They progress through academics using AI-powered adaptive software at their own speed, frequently finishing an entire grade level in a matter of weeks. Your role centers on what the software cannot provide: guiding kids through moments of frustration, teaching them how to deliver feedback, holding them to standards beyond what they believed possible, and making them eager to return each day. You'll facilitate hands-on life skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and time management, followed by motivation sessions designed to cultivate authentic engagement rather than mere compliance.
This isn't a traditional classroom environment. You'll work directly with a small cohort of K-12 students who recognize you by name. You'll monitor their advancement through Coachbot analytics, identify when someone encounters a barrier, and coach them on strategies to overcome it independently. When 100% of your students achieve their weekly targets and 90% provide positive survey feedback, you'll see evidence that the model succeeds because you executed it effectively.
Guides who excel with their cohort advance to Lead Guide positions — mentoring other Guides and influencing how an entire campus delivers on Alpha's mission. Alpha continues opening new campuses, and those who establish excellence today become the architects of its future expansion. If you've never contemplated a career in education but believe you could alter a child's path, this role transforms that conviction into daily work. Apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops with K-12 students covering topics such as public speaking, focus, and delivering feedback: hands-on, project-driven sessions where you're engaging actively, not lecturing passively
- Coaching a small student cohort daily, leveraging Coachbot analytics and student profiles to establish individualized goals, monitor app advancement, and challenge every student to progress
- Preparing and administering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to confirm students have genuinely acquired the skill, not simply attended the session
- Building connections with students as individuals: discovering their interests, identifying what drives each one, and adjusting your methods to match
- Maintaining the quality standard: 100% of students reaching weekly goals, 90% student satisfaction ratings on your surveys
- Teaching traditional academic subjects. Students learn math, reading, and science through adaptive applications. You won't stand at a whiteboard explaining long division.
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up. Alpha supplies a life skills curriculum and playbooks. Your responsibility is to execute them effectively, not design them from scratch.
- Grading assignments, managing parent conferences, or administering standardized tests. There are no report cards to complete and no state test preparation to implement.
- Supervising kids passively on computers. When a student encounters difficulty, you coach them on self-directed problem-solving. Passive observation contradicts this role.
- Compromising standards when a student resists. The motivational framework depends on maintaining high expectations, not creating exceptions when discomfort arises.
Coach a cohort of K-12 students who enjoy school, accelerate their learning through adaptive software, and develop life skills through dynamic workshops.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- At least 3 years of experience working directly with K-8 students (professional or structured volunteer roles such as coaching, camp counseling, or youth programs)
- Willing to work in-person at an Alpha School campus in one of these locations: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
- Legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Experience as an athletic coach, drama director, debate coach, or camp program leader where you inspired kids to excel, not just show up
- Demonstrated record of personal achievement (academic, athletic, or professional) that students and parents view as credible
- Confidence performing before groups: the type of presence that commands a room of twelve-year-olds without escalating your voice
- Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or ed-tech tools (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
