The most helpful thing you can offer a student who earned 95% is to insist the work isn't finished. If that principle unsettles you, this role isn't for you. If it resonates, you already share our mindset.

Alpha students don't absorb information through traditional lectures. They progress through academic content using AI-driven adaptive software at individualized speeds, frequently advancing an entire grade level within weeks. Your role covers everything the technology cannot: guiding students through setbacks, teaching peer feedback skills, maintaining standards they didn't realize they could reach, and cultivating their enthusiasm for being here. You'll facilitate interactive life skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and time management, then lead motivational sessions designed to inspire authentic engagement rather than mere obedience.

This environment differs from a conventional classroom. You'll support a small K-12 cohort who recognize you personally. You'll monitor their development using Coachbot analytics, identify when someone encounters obstacles, and train them in problem-solving strategies. When every student in your group achieves their weekly targets and 90% or more provide positive survey feedback, you'll see evidence that the model succeeds because of your execution.

Guides who excel with their cohort advance to Lead Guide positions—mentoring fellow Guides and influencing campus-wide delivery of Alpha's mission. As Alpha expands to additional campuses, those who establish excellence now will be positioned to replicate it at scale. If education wasn't previously on your radar but you believe you could alter a child's path, this role translates that conviction into daily practice. Submit your application today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-12 students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and peer feedback: interactive, project-driven sessions where you demonstrate and engage rather than lecture
  • Supporting a small student cohort each day by leveraging Coachbot analytics and individual learner profiles to establish personalized goals, monitor software progress, and encourage continuous advancement
  • Creating and administering mastery-based evaluations (Test2Pass) that confirm genuine skill acquisition, not merely attendance
  • Building individual connections with students: discovering their passions, identifying what drives each learner, and tailoring your methods to fit
  • Upholding performance standards: achieving 100% weekly goal completion across your cohort and maintaining 90% satisfaction ratings in student surveys

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Instructing core academic subjects. Mathematics, literacy, and science are delivered via adaptive applications. You won't use a whiteboard to explain arithmetic operations.
  • Designing lesson plans independently. Alpha supplies life skills curriculum and implementation guides. Your responsibility is execution and delivery, not creation from the ground up.
  • Evaluating assignments, conducting parent-teacher meetings, or overseeing standardized testing. Report card completion and state exam preparation are not part of this position.
  • Supervising students passively while they use computers. When learners encounter difficulty, you coach them toward self-sufficiency. Passive observation contradicts this role's purpose.
  • Compromising expectations when students resist. The motivational framework depends on maintaining rigorous standards, not adjusting them to avoid discomfort.

Learning Guide Key Responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-12 students who thrive in school, accelerate learning through adaptive technology, and develop essential life skills via dynamic workshops.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience with K-8 students (professional roles or organized volunteer activities including coaching, camp leadership, or youth programming)
  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha School campus in one of these cities: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Background as a sports coach, theater director, debate instructor, or camp program coordinator where you inspired children to excel, not simply show up
  • Demonstrated history of notable personal accomplishment (scholastic, athletic, or career-oriented) that earns recognition from students and families
  • Confidence presenting to groups: the kind of command that engages a room of middle schoolers without needing to project authority through volume
  • Experience with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms (such as Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
