What are the responsibilities and job description for the Innovation Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site role at Alpha School locations: Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY
- W2 compensation of $150,000/year with weekly pay. Full health benefits start on day one.
- Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one full school year on campus
Alpha leverages AI-powered individualized instruction to enable students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is devoted to life skills, self-directed projects, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal track record validates the expectations: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing behavioral norms, and guiding students through resistance, lack of focus, and internal doubt.
Your role does not involve teaching. AI delivers the academic instruction. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and apply the same exacting standards to students that you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time is spent in direct 1-on-1 or small-group coaching sessions that identify obstacles and establish ambitious objectives. Another forty percent involves facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for genuine mastery rather than engagement alone. The final twenty percent is dedicated to morning kickoffs that create a campus culture in which mediocrity is not tolerated.
The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within a few months, you become the figure students rely on to challenge them beyond their perceived limits. The payoff is not a title change. It is the opportunity to work with the same cohort year after year, supporting their growth over time. It is witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September confidently address a room of adults by May.
This position remains student-centered. Students are the purpose, not a means to career progression. If you are motivated to leave your current role by the mission itself rather than resume enhancement, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions supported by Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious objectives, and ensure accountability for execution
- Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on credible examples from your own elite background, and evaluating mastery via Alpha's Test2Pass framework
- Establishing the campus cultural standard each morning through focused kickoff sessions that communicate and reinforce high-performance expectations
- Monitoring student progress continuously and refining coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
- Developing trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families by upholding high standards, demonstrating consistency, and maintaining documented motivation strategies
- Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments — Alpha's AI-driven academic platform manages instruction; you manage motivation
- Presenting to a full classroom of 30 students (your focus is intensive coaching in small settings, not large-group instruction)
- Supervising other employees or pursuing administrative advancement (this role centers on direct student impact, not organizational management)
- Attending lengthy faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy (your schedule prioritizes student engagement)
- Compromising standards to meet performance targets (if a student achieves 99%, your task is to identify what prevented 100%)
Cultivate exceptional student motivation, personal growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most rigorous campuses.
