What are the responsibilities and job description for the Innovation Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY
- Orange County (Lake Forest), CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Santa Barbara, CA
- $150,000/year compensation, distributed weekly. Health benefits start day one.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction, enabling students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is dedicated to developing life skills, pursuing passion projects, and authentic personal development. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal track record sets a living example: someone who can assess group dynamics, establish standards, and guide them through obstacles like resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
Your role isn't about teaching content; it's about coaching, challenging, and maintaining the same rigorous standards you've applied to yourself. You'll dedicate 80% of your time to direct 1-on-1 coaching sessions, small-group work, and life-skills workshops. The remaining 20% involves establishing daily momentum through sharp, focused openings that build a culture where average performance isn't acceptable.
The trajectory here doesn't lead toward management positions. It's about going deeper. You begin by mastering Alpha's system and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond their perceived limits. The payoff isn't a title change. It's witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to a roomful of adults by May.
If you're searching for a way to leverage your elite background for impact beyond your own career, apply now. If you require a scripted curriculum, a conventional classroom structure, or a route to administrative leadership, this isn't the right fit.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies individual obstacles, establishes ambitious targets, and enforces accountability for student commitments
- Leading structured life-skills workshops designed for genuine mastery, not engagement metrics, drawing on credible narratives from your elite background
- Evaluating student mastery using platforms like Test2Pass and monitoring progress through Coachbot analytics to refine coaching approaches dynamically
- Establishing campus-wide culture each morning via focused kickoffs that embed high-performance norms across the student body
- Developing trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families by maintaining high expectations, consistency, and documented motivational frameworks
- Creating lesson plans, building curriculum, or evaluating assignments. Alpha's academic infrastructure manages those functions independently.
- Presenting to large groups of 30 students. Your focus is intensive, small-scale coaching, not mass instruction.
- Supervising staff or advancing through administrative ranks. This position centers on direct student influence, not organizational management.
- Attending traditional faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy. Your schedule prioritizes student-facing work.
- Compromising standards to meet targets. If a student achieves 99%, your role is uncovering what prevented 100%.
Deliver outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most rigorous campuses.
