Alpha students don't learn through traditional lectures. Instead, they progress through academics using AI-driven adaptive software, moving at their own speed and frequently advancing an entire grade level in a matter of weeks. Your role covers everything the technology cannot: guiding students through setbacks, teaching them how to provide constructive feedback, holding them accountable to higher standards than they thought possible, and creating an environment they're excited to return to each day. You'll facilitate practical life skills sessions covering public speaking, concentration, and time management, then lead engagement-focused discussions designed to inspire authentic commitment rather than simple obedience.
This environment differs fundamentally from a traditional classroom. You'll support a small group of K-12 learners who know your name and rely on your guidance. Using Coachbot analytics, you'll monitor their development, identify obstacles, and teach them problem-solving strategies. When every student in your cohort meets their weekly targets and 90% provide positive survey feedback, you'll see direct evidence that the model succeeds because of your execution.
Guides who excel with their cohorts advance to Lead Guide roles — mentoring other Guides and influencing campus-wide delivery of Alpha's educational model. As Alpha expands to new locations, the individuals who establish excellence today become the architects of tomorrow's growth. If education hasn't been on your radar but you know you could meaningfully impact a young person's path, this position transforms that conviction into your career. Submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating hour-long life skills sessions with K-12 learners on subjects including public speaking, concentration, and feedback delivery: interactive, project-driven experiences where you engage actively rather than lecture passively
- Guiding a small student cohort each day, leveraging Coachbot analytics and individual learner profiles to establish personalized objectives, monitor software engagement, and drive continuous progress for all students
- Developing and administering competency-based evaluations (Test2Pass) to confirm genuine skill acquisition rather than passive attendance
- Building individual relationships with students: discovering their personal interests, identifying their unique motivations, and tailoring your coaching methods to each learner
- Maintaining performance standards: achieving 100% weekly goal completion across your cohort and securing 90% positive ratings on student satisfaction surveys
- Instructing core academic content. Math, literacy, and science learning occurs through adaptive applications. You won't be explaining algebraic concepts at a whiteboard.
- Creating curriculum materials from the ground up. Alpha supplies life skills frameworks and implementation guides. Your responsibility is execution and delivery, not initial design.
- Evaluating homework, conducting parent-teacher meetings, or overseeing standardized testing. No report card preparation or state exam coaching is involved.
- Supervising students passively while they use computers. When learners encounter difficulties, you actively coach them toward solutions. Passive observation contradicts this position's purpose.
- Compromising standards when students resist. The engagement approach centers on maintaining high expectations, not accommodating pushback by lowering requirements.
Guide a cohort of K-12 learners who are enthusiastic about school, accelerate their learning through adaptive technology, and develop essential life competencies via dynamic workshop experiences.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any discipline
- Minimum of 3 years' documented experience working directly with K-8 students in professional or organized volunteer capacities such as sports coaching, camp leadership, or youth development programs
- Available to work on-site at an Alpha School campus in one of these cities: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background as a sports coach, theater director, debate instructor, or camp program coordinator where you inspired children to excel rather than simply show up
- Demonstrated history of exceptional personal accomplishment (scholarly, athletic, or career-related) that establishes credibility with students and families
- Confidence presenting to groups: the executive presence required to command attention from middle-school-aged children without volume or intimidation
- Prior exposure to adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms (examples include Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
