What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Specialist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha School locations: Phoenix, Arizona; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah
- $100,000 annual salary, with weekly pay. Full health benefits starting day one
- Relocation assistance provided
Alpha operates differently from traditional schools. Academic learning happens through adaptive software that allows students to progress at their own speed. There are no lectures, no worksheets, no standardized pacing for everyone. Your role is to ensure a small group of K-2 students is excited to come in each morning, achieves their weekly learning targets, and develops life skills many adults still lack.
You'll facilitate interactive workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills with five-, six-, and seven-year-old learners. You'll guide students as they work through learning applications—not by supplying answers, but by helping them cultivate problem-solving strategies to persist independently. When every student in your group meets their weekly targets and 90% rate you as someone they value working with, you'll have confirmation you're succeeding.
This role isn't about supervising children using computers. It's performance-driven coaching where student progress is monitored, every interaction has a quantifiable result, and your effectiveness is reflected in metrics, not just intuition. If you're convinced that children have unlimited potential and that conventional education limits them, this is your opportunity to demonstrate it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and giving/receiving feedback for a small cohort of K-2 students
- Guiding students through adaptive learning platforms by helping them build strategies for overcoming obstacles, rather than providing direct answers
- Conducting motivation sessions that leverage Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, goal-setting) to ensure 100% of students reach their weekly learning objectives
- Administering and delivering mastery-based evaluations (Test2Pass) to validate that students have genuinely mastered each skill
- Studying curriculum and lesson materials daily, then tailoring your approach according to each student's profile, interests, and performance data
- Standing in front of a classroom lecturing or teaching academic subjects (students learn academics via apps; you facilitate life skills and motivation)
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up or designing curriculum (Alpha supplies the curriculum and frameworks; you provide the execution and enthusiasm)
- Reducing standards when students face difficulties (Alpha's approach requires every student to achieve mastery; accepting 90% performance isn't permitted)
- Handling parent correspondence or supervising school operations (those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead)
Guide a small group of K-2 students to develop life skills and achieve their academic targets every week.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- Minimum of 3 years working with children ages 4 to 8 in educational settings, afterschool programs, coaching, or comparable environments
- Experience facilitating structured group activities for young children that balance clear expectations with strong engagement
- Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus located in Phoenix, Arizona; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; or Houston, Texas
- Available to participate in a paid training program at our Austin, Texas campus
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Experience in youth sports coaching, theater instruction, or camp leadership where you maintained both children's attention AND accountability to standards
- Background using data or analytics to monitor student or participant progress and modify your methods accordingly
- Demonstrated ability to accept feedback and make visible adjustments to your working methods based on it
- Knowledge of growth mindset coaching methods or positive behavioral systems for young children
