What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Educator, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha School campuses: Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah; Phoenix, Arizona
- $100,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Health benefits start on day one
- Relocation assistance provided
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students progress through academic content using adaptive software at an individualized pace. There are no lectures, no worksheets, and no uniform pacing for all learners. Your responsibility is to ensure a small group of K-2 students is excited to arrive each day, reaches their weekly learning targets, and develops life skills that many adults have never acquired.
You'll facilitate hands-on workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills with children aged five, six, and seven. You'll support students as they work through learning applications—not by providing answers, but by cultivating the problem-solving strategies they need to persevere independently. When 100% of your students achieve their weekly targets and 90% rate you as someone they enjoy working with, you'll have confirmation of your effectiveness.
This role is not about supervising children using computers. It's high-stakes coaching where each student's advancement is monitored, every session produces measurable results, and your effectiveness is reflected in data, not sentiment alone. If you're convinced that children have unlimited potential and that traditional schooling constrains them, this is your opportunity to demonstrate it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for a small cohort of K-2 students, covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and giving/receiving feedback
- Supporting students as they work through adaptive learning apps by guiding them to develop problem-solving strategies rather than supplying direct answers
- Conducting motivation sessions that leverage Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, goal-setting) to ensure 100% of students meet their weekly learning objectives
- Administering and delivering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to verify that students have genuinely mastered each skill
- Reviewing curriculum and lesson materials daily, then tailoring your delivery to match each student's profile, interests, and performance data
- Delivering academic lectures or teaching content directly to a classroom (students acquire academic knowledge through apps; you coach life skills and motivation)
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up or designing curriculum (Alpha supplies the curriculum and playbooks; you provide the enthusiasm and implementation)
- Reducing standards when students face difficulty (Alpha's approach requires every student to achieve mastery; accepting 90% proficiency is not permitted)
- Handling parent correspondence or managing school operations (these responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead)
Coach a small group of K-2 students to develop life skills and achieve their academic targets each week.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working with children ages 4 to 8 in educational settings, afterschool programs, coaching, or comparable environments
- Demonstrated experience leading structured activities for groups of young children that balance clear expectations with high levels of engagement
- Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus located in Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah; or Phoenix, Arizona
- Able to participate in a paid training program at our Austin, Texas campus
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
- Experience in youth sports coaching, theater, or camp leadership where you successfully maintained children's attention while upholding high standards
- Background using data or analytics to monitor student or participant progress and modify your methods accordingly
- Demonstrated ability to receive feedback and implement visible changes to your work practices based on it
- Knowledge of growth mindset coaching methods or positive behavioral frameworks designed for young children
