What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Education Specialist, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in New York City, NY
- $120,000 annual compensation, disbursed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one.
- Considering a move? We provide relocation assistance.
Alpha School is redesigning education so children achieve academic mastery efficiently and invest more time developing essential life competencies. For Pre-K learners, this begins with something more foundational: emotional security, curiosity, and the resilience to persist.
Your objective: guide an on-site NYC Pre-K group that develops a love of learning while demonstrating accelerated early-development outcomes—approximately double the gains seen in conventional preschool settings. You will structure purposeful, sensory-engaged play sessions that integrate developmental milestones, capture progress on a weekly basis, and iterate quickly for individual learners.
NYC offers: parks suited to outdoor instruction, culturally rich neighborhoods with engaged family networks, exceptional public transportation, and proximity to leading early childhood education communities.
Cultivate joy. Accelerate development. Submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Structure and lead 30–60 minute play-centered learning sessions that foster joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental progress
- Establish a classroom environment rich in movement and sensory input that sustains high engagement and supports four-year-olds learning across diverse modalities
- Conduct real-time observation and documentation: Record same-day, evidence-based notes aligned to developmental domains, then refresh each child's milestone tracking weekly
- Leverage data for instructional decisions: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's next developmental threshold and design responsive teaching strategies
- Construct individualized, interest-driven activity modifications grounded in each child's motivations, embed a single targeted developmental objective, and reassess effectiveness within a two-week window
- Support children navigating frustration through composed co-regulation and emotional mentoring instead of reactive behavioral management
- Share student progress, daily structures, and developing concerns transparently and proactively with families
- Approach Pre-K as custodial care instead of deliberate early instruction
- Default to scripted activity sheets or compliance-focused teaching as your primary method
- Allocate the majority of your day to overseeing academic software rather than facilitating direct, tactile learning experiences
- Apply reactive behavioral interventions in lieu of composed co-regulation and emotional guidance
Ensure NYC Pre-K children develop a genuine enthusiasm for school while exhibiting accelerated early-learning advancement through purposeful play.
Basic Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR valid CDA/Montessori/Reggio certification
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with 3–5-year-olds in a structured group environment (classroom-based, not exclusively individual care)
- Documented success leading play-based instruction that produces visible developmental gains
- Confirmed capacity to record developmental milestones objectively and reliably on a weekly schedule using an organized framework or assessment tool
- Advanced relationship-building and emotional perception: Capacity to establish trust rapidly, interpret emotional signals precisely, and apply personalized motivators to drive engagement
- Co-regulation and frustration support: Assist children through emotional escalation using composed modeling and systematic emotional instruction
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
- Available to work full-time on-site in New York City, NY
