Director of Learning & Development, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

Crossover

  • In-person locations: Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Boston, MA; Bethesda, MD; Raleigh, NC; New York City, NY; Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available)
  • $200,000 annually, paid weekly | Health, dental, and vision benefits begin day one

The greatest support you can offer a student who achieves 99% is to acknowledge it isn't 100%. This isn't indifference—it's a belief in their capacity to reach the full mark, and lowering expectations becomes the true disservice. If this reasoning resonates, continue reading. If it feels overly strict, this position will likely not align with your approach.

Students at Alpha don't passively attend lectures. They advance through adaptive applications at double the speed of conventional classrooms while simultaneously developing practical life competencies. Your role ensures three commitments are fulfilled for every student in your cohort: genuine enthusiasm for school, accelerated learning at 2x traditional pace, and acquisition of skills beyond standard textbooks. You simultaneously coach the Guides responsible for delivering these outcomes across your campus.

Data informs every choice, and every workday involves direct, in-person interaction. Your time is divided between your own student cohort and the Guides under your leadership—with identical expectations for both: documented progress without exception. When a Guide's session underperforms, you don't generate a written assessment; you observe the session, conduct an immediate debrief, and implement corrections that same afternoon.

You'll witness reserved students confidently presenting to adult audiences. You'll observe a learner who once "despised school" request to remain after hours. You'll recognize that the standard you maintained is precisely what enabled their transformation, because upholding high expectations demonstrates your conviction in their ability to meet them.

You may be establishing a completely new campus from the ground up, setting the foundational culture that will characterize the institution. As the campus develops, your role evolves from hands-on startup operator to coaching-focused leader, cultivating the team that expands Alpha's approach throughout your region.

If this opportunity appeals to you, submit your application now.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour live workshops on life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) with K-8 students, covering topics such as public speaking and concentration, adhering to Alpha's established playbook
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions designed to drive 100% student achievement of weekly app-based goals through age-appropriate incentive structures including school currency and leaderboards
  • Developing Guides through direct observation, precise feedback, and practical training to ensure they execute workshops with equivalent energy and accuracy
  • Analyzing Coachbot data and student profiles to pinpoint students requiring intervention, then providing direct personal support
  • Directly mentoring your assigned student cohort, demonstrating the coaching and motivational techniques you require from all Guides

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Creating lesson plans or developing curriculum. Students progress via adaptive apps; your focus is elevating the people supporting them.
  • Delivering traditional classroom lectures. You're 80% performer, 20% content expert; if standing at a whiteboard appeals to you, this role isn't suited for that.
  • Compromising standards due to pressure from parents or administration. A 99% score receives a "not yet" response—and you'll have organizational support to maintain that standard.
  • Spending time in an office processing administrative documents. The majority of your day involves direct engagement with students and Guides.
  • Awaiting extended periods for performance feedback. Results appear live in Coachbot and adjustments occur immediately.
