What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha campuses: Denver, CO | Atlanta, GA | Oklahoma City, OK | Nashville, TN | Fort Worth, TX | Houston, TX (Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands) | Park City, UT (relocation assistance available)
- $100,000 annual salary with weekly pay. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full academic day in roughly two hours using adaptive software. No classroom lectures. No traditional textbooks. Your role centers on what technology cannot replicate: developing life skills in K-8 students—public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange. You'll spend half your time facilitating hands-on workshops guided by structured playbooks and narrative techniques. The remaining time is dedicated to individual or small-group sessions where you analyze student progress through Coachbot analytics in adaptive learning platforms and hold them accountable to 100% weekly goal completion. Mastery is demonstrated through Test2Pass assessments, not participation metrics.
During your first year, you'll lead a student cohort and become proficient in Alpha's framework: life skill workshops, motivation coaching, mastery-based evaluation. As you demonstrate the ability to hold every student to complete goal achievement while maintaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—a role where you mentor other Guides while remaining engaged with students. Top performers don't simply transform individual students; they influence entire campus culture.
If you have years of experience coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and have wished you could eliminate traditional instruction to concentrate on their genuine development, this opportunity is for you.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for K-8 students covering public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and feedback skills (hands-on, project-oriented approach)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions to review student progress in adaptive learning platforms (via Coachbot analytics), establish targets, and hold them accountable to 100% weekly goal completion
- Administering and assessing Test2Pass evaluations to verify genuine mastery of each life skill rather than simple participation
- Adjusting your coaching approach across diverse age groups, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
- Cultivating authentic connections with each student so they trust your guidance through challenges, distraction, and uncertainty
- Delivering lectures or traditional academic instruction (core subjects are learned through adaptive applications, not through your teaching)
- Creating lesson plans or original curriculum (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with energy and storytelling)
- Handling parent communications or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage those functions; you concentrate on student development)
- Evaluating homework or coordinating standardized testing (these do not exist in this environment)
- Operating independently (you function within a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who provide feedback and mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student in your cohort enjoys their school experience, achieves mastery of critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning technology.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years of direct experience with K-8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching K-8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, including at least one concrete example you can articulate (the objective, your actions, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Availability to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Nashville, TN; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands); or Park City, UT (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp direction, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for driving kids toward specific objectives
- History of exceptional personal achievement (academic distinctions, competitive sports, or leadership positions requiring sustained high performance)
- Innate storytelling capacity: you can maintain the attention of a room full of 12-year-olds for an hour without increasing your volume
- Proven ability to motivate disengaged or reluctant students and convert them into engaged participants
