What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $100,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; full health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
- On-campus role at an Alpha K-8 school in Denver, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston (Central, South, or The Woodlands), TX; Park City, UT (Salt Lake City metro); or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance available)
The most constructive response to a student reaching 99% of their target is to insist it is not finished. If that expectation unsettles you, this role is not a fit. If it energizes you—because maintaining the standard is how you communicate belief in a student's capacity—continue.
At Alpha, academic learning occurs via AI-driven applications. No traditional instruction. No printed materials. Half of each day, you facilitate one-hour life-skills sessions covering public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback exchange. The remainder is spent in individual or small-group check-ins, analyzing student data through Coachbot, and guiding each learner to reach 100% of their weekly application targets. You will not follow a rigid script—sessions provide a framework, but high performers in this position customize them and create new content where needed.
A successful quarter means every student in your group completes their weekly app objectives, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90% or more report they value their relationship with you. Falling short on any of these three measures means falling short of the role. In your first year, you internalize the system; as you demonstrate the ability to uphold standards, opportunities open to advance to Lead Guide, where you mentor new Coaches while continuing direct student work.
If you prefer conventional classroom teaching, expect a pre-built curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp leadership, tutoring where you refused to let a student give up, or performance work that could captivate a room of young children, the final stage before an offer is a full on-campus day coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups covering public speaking, focus, feedback, and other foundational competencies, modifying the existing framework and creating new sessions when you identify unmet needs
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations that drive every student to complete 100% of their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's motivational systems (campus currency, performance rankings), and your personal connection with each child to overcome hesitation
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not pass on the first attempt until they achieve mastery
- Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring energetic, kinesthetic engagement to 8th graders needing candid dialogue and clear accountability
- Serving as the adult who upholds expectations and the adult students trust and seek out; genuine care creates the foundation to challenge, and challenge signals your confidence in their potential
- Presenting lessons at the front of a classroom; academic content is delivered through the applications, not by you
- Developing curriculum independently; you animate an established system with energy and narrative skill
- Passively monitoring students as they use devices; motivation in this context is active, individualized, and sustained
- Reducing a weekly target to make it easier for a student to meet; when a child falls behind, the solution involves supporting the child, not adjusting the goal
- Assessing assignments, facilitating standardized exam preparation, or handling family outreach; Campus Leads manage parent communication, and the other tasks are not part of this model
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 group completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and concludes the year affirming they valued their experience with you.

- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, athletic coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
