What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha campuses in Denver, CO | Atlanta, GA | Nashville, TN | Fort Worth, TX | Houston, TX | Park City, UT
- $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
- Considering a move? Relocation assistance provided
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full day's worth of academics in roughly two hours using adaptive software. No lectures. No textbooks. Your role covers what technology cannot: guiding kids through essential life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange. You'll facilitate interactive workshops, drive students to achieve their learning targets, and develop relationships where a reserved 4th grader eventually presents with confidence before a room of adults.
This position grows over time. During your first year, you'll manage a small student cohort and implement Alpha's methodology: life skill workshops, motivation sessions, mastery-based assessments. Once you demonstrate the ability to hold every student accountable to 100% of their goals while maintaining satisfaction scores above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available, where you'll mentor a team while remaining engaged with students directly. The strongest performers in this role don't just transform individual lives; they influence how an entire campus functions.
You won't encounter this opportunity at a conventional school. If you've been coaching, counseling, or mentoring children and wishing you could eliminate instructional teaching to focus on their development, this is your opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for K-12 students covering topics like public speaking, focus, time management, and feedback exchange (interactive and project-based, never lecture-style)
- Conducting daily motivation sessions where you engage with individual students, assess their progress in adaptive learning applications (using Coachbot analytics), and challenge them to reach 100% of their weekly targets
- Preparing and executing mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to verify students have genuinely mastered each skill, not merely attended
- Cultivating authentic relationships with each student so they trust you sufficiently to accept coaching through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty
- Monitoring student progress against satisfaction metrics and goal completion data, modifying your approach when outcomes underperform
- Lecturing before a classroom or providing traditional academic instruction (students master core subjects through self-directed adaptive applications, not through you)
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up (Alpha supplies a life skills curriculum and playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with energy and narrative)
- Handling parent communications or school administration (Campus Leads manage those duties; you remain concentrated on your students)
- Grading assignments or overseeing standardized test preparation (neither exists at Alpha)
- Operating independently (you're part of a campus team with Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)
Ensure every student in your cohort loves school, masters essential life skills, and hits 100% of their academic goals through adaptive learning software.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- 3 years of experience working directly with K-8 students (teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program leadership)
- Willingness to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX; or Park City, UT (relocation support provided)
- Ability to attend a paid training program at Alpha's Austin, TX campus
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Experience in youth development: athletic coaching, camp leadership, or youth program work where you held direct responsibility for motivating children to achieve specific targets
- History of high personal achievement (academic distinctions, competitive athletics, or leadership positions that demanded sustained excellence)
- Natural storytelling ability: you can maintain the attention of a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without elevating your voice
- Experience motivating disengaged or resistant students and converting them into active participants
