What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Communications Call Taker Trainee position at CRESA?
Become 911 Emergency Communication Call Taker - no experience necessary, we train! We are starting the selection process to create a qualified ranked candidate list to be hired in 2027.
CRESA provides training to become a 911 Emergency Communications Call Taker!. After successfully passing training and probation, the candidate will be placed into call taking position and their shift is based on seniority. 911 Communication Call Takers main functions are to answer and process 311 non-emergent requests from both citizens and user agencies, answer and process 911 calls, and perform Emergency Medical Dispatch for callers with medical response needs. Schedule for Call Takers are set (not rotating) that is any combination of 40hr work week. Schedule during 6 months of training changes monthly for different shifts, schedules and can have rotating shifts.
When we have open Dispatch positions internal call takers may apply for an internal promotion to be enter the dispatch training program.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years or older
- Must be able to legally work in the United States
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One or more years' full-time work experience with intensive customer interaction preferred.
- If you have 911 Emergency Communication Call Taking or Dispatch experience at a similar community and center, email HR to see if you qualify for lateral consideration
- Excellent computer skills, knowledge and experience. Ability to monitor 4 computer screens. Accurate and rapid data entry 30 wpm.
- Ability to memorize and recall details, codes and procedures. Attention to detail and communication skills are essential.
- Ability to work all days and hours. Including but not limited to swing, graveyard, weekends, holidays and overtime.
CALL TAKER ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Answer and process 911 calls for police, fire and medical.
- Answer 311 calls for service of routine, and non-emergent requests from citizens and user agencies
- Pay strict attention to detail and respond correctly in life-threatening and safety situations
- Develop and keep positive working relationships

- Hear and understand information spoken by phone, two-way radio or in person

- Work regular work shifts of 10.25 hours
- Work any assigned shift: days, swing, graveyards

- Memorize codes, procedures, and other data

Selection Process

- Job skills and ability computerized testing in July, requires passing score to proceed
- First panel interview will be scheduled in August, requires an overall passing score to proceed
- Job Shadow (Sitalong) will be scheduled after successfully passing first interview
- Final Interview panel is scheduled after job shadow has been completed, interview will be scored and must received 70% or higher to pass
- Ranking based on 60% of final interview score and 40% of overall job skills computerized testing scores. The following will happen in ranked order
- Conditional Offer contingent on candidate passing an in depth background Investigation, fingerprint criminal review, psychological evaluation and drug screen.
- Final Offer which includes start date and training academy information
- Background Investigation- (Pass/Fail, conducted in rank order) - Requires detailed Personal History form and comprehensive background investigation with elements including but not limited to candidate's employment history, education, job and personal references, criminal history, driving record check, etc.
- Disqualifiers: Felony Convictions, Dishonesty, Falsification, Failure to Disclose, Failure to provide appropriate contact information, Behavior that does not support Public Safety Code of Ethics or CRESA values.
- Conditional Job Offer- (Offered in ranked order) - When a vacancy is available, the candidate will receive a conditional job offer of employment, contingent upon successfully passing the post-offer processes.
- Post-Offer Process- (Pass/Fail) - Post offer processes include a psychological evaluation, fingerprinting criminal review, general medical examinations, drug test and baseline hearing and vision tests.
