PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position has a dual purpose:
1) Ensuring that monitoring and reporting for all the site Environmental, Health and Safety functions is done correctly and on time. The Technician investigates and mitigates safety and environmental risks by conducting inspections, collecting samples and maintaining equipment to ensure compliance with regulations, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and a healthy workplace. Key duties include environmental monitoring, accident investigation, employee training, emergency preparedness and record-keeping to promote a safe and compliant working environment for employees and the community.
2) Ensuring that the controlled document system is maintained and updated in compliance with ISO 9001 document control requirements. An ISO 9001 Document Control Technician job involves managing a company's controlled documents, ensuring their accuracy, version control, and compliance with ISO 9001 and other standards. Key responsibilities include maintaining the lifecycle of documents (creation, revision, distribution, archival), managing the electronic document control system, providing training on procedures, supporting audits, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain operational accuracy and regulatory readiness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH, AND SAFETY
- Inspections and Assessments:
- Conduct site inspections, identify workplace hazards, evaluate potential environmental impacts, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
- Environmental Monitoring:
- Collect samples of air, water, soil, and other materials for laboratory analysis to monitor pollutants and contaminants.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Install, calibrate, and maintain scientific equipment used for environmental monitoring and safety.
- Incident Investigation:
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine their causes and recommend actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training and Planning:
- Conduct safety training for employees, develop emergency and contingency plans, and support business continuity initiatives.
- Record-Keeping and Reporting:
- Prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports, maintain data logs and files, and document safety procedures and test results.
- Compliance Support:
- Assist in addressing regulatory compliance issues and preparing for outside inspections to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal laws.
- Recommendation and Improvement:
- Recommend equipment changes or new equipment installations to create a safer environment and support continuous improvement of EHS programs.
DOCUMENT CONTROL
- Document Lifecycle Management:
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of controlled documents, from their creation and review to their approval, distribution and eventual archival.
- Version Control and Compliance:
- Ensure all documents maintain correct version control and are updated and approved according to company processes and ISO 9001 standards.
- System Administration:
- Manage and maintain the company's electronic document management system, including organizing and storing documents.
- Process Adherence:
- Establish and maintain document control procedures, ensuring they align with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Audits & Training:
- Support internal and external audits by providing access to accurate and timely documentation and provide guidance and training to staff on document control procedures and best practices.
- Collaboration:
- Work with cross-functional teams, such as engineering and quality, to ensure timely and compliant document submissions
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in data collection, sampling techniques, and relevant software.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards and quality management systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document management software.
- Excellent skills in organizing, maintaining, and archiving documents and records.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating reports and training others.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency in all documentation.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Background with welding and powder coating is a plus.
