Company & Role Overview
Our client, a major energy and utilities data company, is seeking a mid-level, Houston-based Motion Graphics Designer and Video Editor to join their team on a contract basis. This role begins as part-time (24 hours per week) remote but is anticipated to increase in hours over time. It is a backfill for a transitioning full-time designer and carries the potential for conversion to a full-time employee (FTE) within six months.
The hourly rate is $40-$45/hr with a target salary of $90-$110k.
**Please note, if this role converts to FT it will become an onsite role. If you are not willing to be in the office (located in NW Houston off the Beltway and Clay Rd.) M-F, please refrain from applying.**
This designer will be responsible for executing high-quality digital and motion graphics, supporting a wide variety of marketing and communication needs. The ideal candidate possesses a strong design eye, expert technical proficiency, and the ability to translate static concepts into engaging motion assets.
Key Deliverables & Responsibilities
- Motion Graphics & Video Editing: Serve as the primary resource for motion design, expertly creating engaging and visually sophisticated motion graphics and video edits (no 3D required, but must be able to add motion/animation to static designs).
- Digital Asset Creation: Design a wide range of static and animated digital graphics for web, social media, and other digital channels.
- Print Design: Handle occasional print design projects, though the majority of work will focus on digital and motion deliverables.
- Template Creation: Utilize Canva to create user-friendly, on-brand design templates for various internal teams. Deep knowledge of Canva's capabilities is essential.
- Design Quality & Decision-Making: Apply a discerning eye and strong design principles to all work, ensuring final deliverables are visually compelling, on-brand, and meet project goals in a corporate environment.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience Level: Mid-level design experience
- Technical Mastery: Proven expertise in industry-standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, focusing on programs relevant to motion and digital design).
- Motion Savvy: Exceptional portfolio showcasing high-level proficiency in motion graphics and video editing.
- Canva Proficiency: Must have hands-on experience creating and managing design templates within the Canva platform.
- Portfolio Excellence: A strong, diverse portfolio that clearly demonstrates excellent design decision-making, technical skill, and a superior design eye.
Logistics & Interview Process
- Employment Type: Remote contract starting at 24 hours per week. Hours are anticipated to increase, with potential for conversion to FTE within 6 months.
- Location: Remote talent is acceptable. While the client has an in-office mandate for full-time employees, contractors will not be held to this requirement and will only be asked to come into the office on an as-needed basis for critical meetings or training.
