What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Director position at Creative Circle?
Position Overview
Our client, a high-end fashion company, is seeking an Art Director to join their team on a freelance basis, with strong potential to convert to a full-time role. This is a 40-hour-per-week position with a hybrid schedule, requiring onsite presence three days per week in NYC.
In this role, you'll partner closely with the Senior Art Director to manage a high-volume creative pipeline, ensuring all work is cohesive, elevated, and executed to the highest standard. The Art Director will serve as a highly creative and strategic design leader, responsible for developing and delivering compelling visual solutions across digital, social, and select print channels.
A key focus of this position is leading the brand's social-first creative strategy. This role requires a deep understanding of how to concept and execute content specifically for social platforms, not simply adapting or reposting campaign assets. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in platform-native storytelling, with the ability to create engaging, culturally relevant content tailored to each channel.
This role calls for someone who is both hands-on and a strong leader, able to execute design work while mentoring and guiding a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Senior Art Director to prioritize, delegate, and oversee creative output across channels, ensuring consistency and high quality
- Lead the development of social-first, platform-native concepts and executions, designed specifically for social engagement and performance
- Collaborate closely with Social and Content teams to create dynamic, culturally relevant work that resonates across platforms
- Manage and mentor a Social Content Creator and broader creative team, providing clear direction and actionable feedback
- Define and maintain the creative vision, look & feel, and tone across all brand touchpoints
- Concept and support execution of campaign and eCommerce photoshoots, ensuring content is optimized and extended thoughtfully across social, email, homepage, and PDP
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, production, and eCommerce teams to streamline planning and execution
- Develop and execute innovative 360 campaigns while ensuring social content is uniquely tailored-not just campaign extensions
- Manage freelance talent and external agency partners as needed
- Partner with production teams to deliver projects on time and on budget
- Foster a culture of creative excellence, innovation, and high performance
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of in-house art direction experience across brand, digital, and campaign work
- Strong portfolio demonstrating social-first concepting and execution (not just campaign rollout or asset adaptation)
- Proven experience creating platform-native content that drives engagement and growth across social channels
- Experience managing and mentoring creative teams with confidence and clarity in decision-making
- Deep understanding of the full brand ecosystem, including digital, social, PR, experiential, and emerging platforms
- Ability to think strategically while executing, connecting big-picture brand storytelling to day-to-day creative
- Established network of photographers, stylists, producers, agencies, and freelancers
- Highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Background in contemporary, fashion-forward brands (non-big box retail preferred)
In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
