Injection Mold Tool Room Supervisor
Location: Macomb, Michigan
Salary: $100-125k
A leading manufacturer serving the medical device, electronics, and consumer products industries is seeking a hands-on Tool Room Supervisor to lead a high-performing, state-of-the-art tooling operation.
This is a leadership role for someone who has grown through the tool room, not transitioned away from it. The ideal candidate brings deep, recent mold-building experience and is ready to take full ownership of in-house tooling operations.
What You’ll Do
Lead tool room operations from mold design through full production
Supervise a cross-functional team of mold makers, mold designers, and maintenance staff
Act as the technical liaison between customers, engineering, and program management
Manage build scheduling, staffing, and performance across multiple shifts
Drive lean manufacturing, 5S, and preventive maintenance initiatives
Troubleshoot and resolve mold and processing-related issues quickly
Ensure compliance with ISO, FDA, and quality standards
Maintain accurate production and audit documentation
What You’ll Bring (Required)
5 years of current experience supervising an injection mold tool room
10 years of recent hands-on experience as a mold maker
Proven experience building prototype and multi-cavity production molds (Class 101–104)
Strong expertise in mold design, building, and maintenance
Ability to lead teams, solve complex problems, and manage competing priorities
Working knowledge of CAD with the ability to review mold designs prior to building
Technical Expertise Expectations
Mold Building
Built molds start-to-finish independently using standard tool room equipment
Deep experience with multi-cavity molds, slides, lifters, hydraulics, hot runners, and valve gates
Knowledge of tooling materials, heat treating, coatings, and performance optimization
CAD / CAM
Ability to analyze part and mold designs from a DFM perspective
Capability to review designs before release to build
Understanding of cutter paths; advanced programming experience is a plus
Molding & Processing
Strong troubleshooting capability during mold tryouts and production
Understanding of how processing variables impact mold performance
Leadership & Operations
Lead, mentor, and develop tool room personnel
Own scheduling, workload balancing, and on-time delivery
Proactively identify delays and adjust priorities
Represent the tool room across all internal departments
Lead project reviews, progress updates, and cross-functional meetings
Preferred Experience
Preventive maintenance program leadership
Long-term leadership mindset with interest in growing and scaling the department
Exposure to injection molding processing environments
