Position Overview
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws, specimen collection, and supporting accurate laboratory testing in a fast-paced outpatient setting. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to create a calm and positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws with accuracy and professionalism
- Properly label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing
- Collect additional specimens, including urine and swabs as needed
- Follow infection control, safety, and specimen handling protocols
- Verify patient identity and explain procedures clearly to patients
- Monitor patients during and after collection and respond appropriately to adverse reactions
- Document specimen collection and patient information in the EHR system
- Process lab requisitions and ensure specimens match physician orders
- Communicate with providers and clinical staff regarding specimen issues or abnormal results
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked work area
- Support clinic operations and patient flow as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Phlebotomy training and hands-on experience required
- Phlebotomy certification preferred
- BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire
- 1 year of phlebotomy experience in an outpatient or clinic setting
- Experience working with internal medicine or infectious disease patients preferred
- Strong understanding of specimen handling and laboratory procedures
- Strong venipuncture and specimen collection skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong patient communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced clinical environment
- Familiarity with EHR systems and basic computer skills
