Job Summary
The Physician provides comprehensive family practice medical services in accordance with Iowa statutes and regulations, delivering patient-centered care focused on health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across the lifespan. This role includes conducting thorough assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing procedures within the scope of expertise, and ensuring continuity of care. The Physician may provide care in rural health clinics and serve as back-up or primary physician in the Emergency Department and hospital setting as needed. The position requires adherence to all state and federal regulatory standards, ethical guidelines, and organizational policies while contributing to a collaborative, team-based culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient assessments in clinic and/or hospital settings, including physical exams and detailed medical histories.
Evaluate preventive health needs and screening requirements based on age, risk factors, and developmental principles.
Diagnose medical conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
Order, conduct, interpret, and communicate diagnostic test results to patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
Prescribe and administer medications and therapeutic devices in compliance with regulations.
Monitor and reassess patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed.
Provide counseling and education to patients and families regarding health conditions, treatment options, and care goals.
Coordinate care, make referrals, and ensure continuity of care across providers and services.
Respond promptly to patient inquiries and concerns.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including proper CPT and ICD-10 coding.
Demonstrate readiness and ability to respond to emergency situations and prioritize patient care needs.
Collaborate positively with medical staff and serve as a clinical resource within the organization.
Apply current standards of practice and evidence-based research to patient care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and recommend enhancements to patient care delivery.
Maintain patient, hospital, and employee confidentiality at all times.
Comply with all organizational policies, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and annual education requirements.
Support a collaborative team culture through professionalism, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Provide patient care across rural clinic locations as assigned.
Serve as back-up physician to the Emergency Department and Hospital and may function as primary physician when required.
Qualifications
Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
Current Iowa physician licensure or evidence of application for licensure.
Board Certified in Family Medicine within 12 months of start date.
Successful completion of a Family Medicine residency program.
Less than one year of experience as an independent practitioner (new graduates encouraged).
Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and ATLS.
Eligibility for Federal DEA registration and State of Iowa controlled substances registration.
Valid Mandatory Reporter training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse (or obtained within 6 months of hire).
Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with relevant medical technologies and electronic documentation systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a team-based healthcare environment.
Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
