Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers across over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques, ensuring proper cargo securing for transportation of hazardous materials and dangerous goods when applicable.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and reduce transit times.
- Transport various types of freight such as refrigerated goods, automobile transportation units, hazardous materials, or general freight with precision and care.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure trucks are in optimal condition; report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate documentation for deliveries, including logs for load & unload activities, delivery receipts, and compliance records related to hazardous materials regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery statuses, or any unforeseen delays or incidents.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving across diverse terrains.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for dangerous goods handling.
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks and managing manual handling tasks during loading/unloading processes.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker units, and automobile transportation equipment.
- Proficient in GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments during trips.
- Ability to load & unload cargo safely while adhering to logistics cargo handling standards.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; experience with over-the-road (OTR) routes preferred.
