Job Summary:
The Health Professions Coordinator and Campus Nurse is responsible for all aspects of the CNA, CMA, Home Health Aide (HHA), Restorative Aide (RA), IV Certification (LPN), Phlebotomy, and any other nursing-related programs at Cowley College. This position will provide leadership in marketing, recruiting, and advising program students. The Nursing Coordinator is responsible for maintaining established standards set in the industry and adapting program offerings as needed. The position will provide basic health services to meet the needs of students and the College.
Health Professions Coordinator Position Duties:
- Actively recruit students, including SB155-eligible high school students.
- Build partnerships with local high schools and maintain program articulations.
- Promote programs through brochures, fliers, and outreach activities.
- Advise allied health students and guide them through enrollment and completion processes.
- Recruit, hire, orient, evaluate, and support adjunct instructors.
- Communicate policies, expectations, and procedural updates to instructors.
- Conduct class evaluations, including at least one on site visit per class.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all program classes.
- Select textbooks and instructional materials.
- Review course content and submit required materials to the state.
- Maintain ADA compliance curricula, policies, objectives, and course evaluations.
- Develop and manage Blackboard course shells.
- Ensure learning experiences (classroom, lab, clinical) align with course objectives and learning theory.
- Monitor instructor and student performance and implement improvements as needed.
- Develop and update program job descriptions in collaboration with HR.
- Ensure students meet all clinical affiliation requirements (vaccinations, background checks, paperwork).
- Maintain current contracts and affiliation agreements with clinical partners.
- Address background check issues according to KDADS regulations.
- Ensure compliance with KDADS, KBOR, KSBN, Cowley College, and related agencies.
- Maintain and submit required reports, statistics, and documentation.
- Coordinate KDADS certification testing.
- Manage interstate CNA transfers and provide required testing.
- Issue BLS cards to CNA students and ensure AHA compliance for instructors.
- Recommend and manage program budget.
- Process payments for purchases, KDADS, Kryterion, and certification fees.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, chemicals, inventory, and classroom/lab spaces.
- Schedule and oversee skills lab and classroom use.
- Attend monthly department meetings, College faculty meetings, and in-service College meetings.
- Participate in the quarterly KDADS Health Occupations Credentialing Advisory Group Meetings in Topeka.
- Continue professional growth in the healthcare field.
- Maintain courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and/or any other representatives of external organizations.
- Comply with all College policies and procedures.
- Develop current and new academic programs in conjunction with the Department Chair.
- Assist the Department Chair by performing other related duties as assigned.
Campus Nurse Position Duties:
- Manage walk-in health care services for 20 hours a week.
- Coordinate with the Director of Housing to triage student health needs, refer to medical care, counseling services, and/or community resources as needed.
- Provide treatment of minor injuries and illnesses according to standing orders given by a consultant physician.
- Maintain compliance with college policies and procedures relative to student immunization records.
- Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of health regulations set forth by federal, state, and local laws and ensure the College follows all statutes in administering the College’s health care program.
- Comply with confidentiality requirements as set by HIPAA, FERPA, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate and serve as liaison for local, county, state, and federal officials to comply with requirements and maximize effective response to a health crisis.
- Coordinate opportunities for special health services on campus (ex., Regular flu shots, reading of TB testing, etc.).
- Maintain the health services office, including supplies, equipment, and over-the-counter medication.
- Maintain appropriate files on all students and staff who utilize the health center.
- Provide employee/student health-related training, as necessary.
- Monitor student health budget.
- Serve as liaison with community health and social agencies. Maintain a resource list of other health providers.
- When necessary, provide students with transportation to medical appointments off campus.

Required Education Background:
- Current Kansas Registered Nurse.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
Required Experience:
- At least two years as a healthcare provider.
- Leadership/supervision experience.
- One year of experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
Supervisory Requirements: Supervise adjunct faculty members.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive a motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Work performed in an office environment, classroom, or throughout community locations. Travel within the region.
