POSITION TITLE: MEDIASPECIALIST - WEstern Elementary School

Job Description
Operate and supervise the media center operation. Evaluate, select and requisition new media materials. Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and make media materials available to supplement the instructional program. Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system. Arrange for the loan of materials of interest or use to teachers. Work with teachers in planning assignments likely to lead to extended use of media resources. Promote appropriate conduct of students using the media center facilities. Help students develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments. Counsel with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Purge obsolete and worn materials from the collections. Prepare and administer the media center budget. Participate actively in library and other educational and professional associations on the local, regional, state, and national level. Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook. Comply with conditions stated in contract of employment. Comply with the federal, state and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives. Participate as required in the appropriate state annual evaluation process. Perform such other duties as may be required by the school principal.
Required Education, Certification Or Training
Masters degree from an Accredited College or University and state required certification.
Required Skills
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement the various programs and support services associated with a comprehensive media center.
Required Experience
Successful teaching and library/media experience or training through approved media specialist program.
