What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard (Seasonal) position at County of Tuolumne?
You will be required to pay for your lifeguard training course, however, upon completion of the course and after 100 hours of services with Tuolumne County, you will receive a hiring bonus of $300.***
Under direct supervision, to serve as a lifeguard at an assigned public pool; to assist with daily pool operations, including maintenance and record-keeping; and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from the Pool Manager. Exercises no direct supervision.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This class requires a working knowledge for providing a safe and enjoyable swimming environment for patrons, providing lifesaving procedures as necessary and enforcing applicable rules and regulations. Incumbents work with some independence while working in close cooperation with other staff. This class is distinguished from the Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor in that the latter teaches swimming techniques to patrons.

- Enforces the rules and regulations of the public pool to which assigned.
- Performs appropriate lifesaving procedures; administers CPR, AED, and First Aid in the event of an emergency situation.
- Enforces all rules, regulations and safety requirements governing pool and pool facilities.
- Completes and submits accident and incident reports; prepares and maintains other routine records as required.
- Monitors the condition of facilities and equipment before, during and after events to determine maintenance needs to ensure participant and staff safety.
- Assists in preparing and maintaining a variety of records and reports regarding activities, services and related information.
- Performs general custodial work to ensure cleanliness of the facility, pool and grounds.
- Ensures the safety of the public and staff at all times by inspecting, patrolling, monitoring, and instructing on the safe use of program facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintains a safe, clean, and tidy environment; reports unsafe conditions or illegal activities.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints in areas of responsibility.
- Performs general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, establishing and maintaining records, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, answering the telephone, etc.
- Attends meetings, training, seminars, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents and the general public.

Must currently be attending high school or have completed high school. Previous experience working with youth in a swimming or recreational setting is desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must be at least 15 years old at date of hire.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must possess CPR / First Aid / AED certifications.
- Must possess Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
