What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at Stanislaus County Police Activities League?
Under the direction of the Pool Supervisor and or Field Supervisor, the Lifeguard is responsible for scanning and supervising the entire pool area, enforces pool rules and regulations during swim program, promote safety and health regulations on a daily basis, prevent accidents and rescue swimmers in distress. All lifeguards are responsible for keeping the facilities clean and safe for all patrons to include responsible for the overall safety of the patrons.
This is an intermittent, part-time seasonal, hourly wage position and does not qualify for benefits such as vacation, sick leave, holidays or health benefits. Some evenings may be required.
- Must be at least 15 years of age with a valid ID card and a properly issued social security card. Work permit required for students under the age of 18.
- Pass Stanislaus County Police Activities League Background Check.
- Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
- Possess valid License/Certification(s) in:
- Lifeguard Training
- Title 22
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Standard First Aid for the Professional Rescuer by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Water safety instructions.
- Desire previous experience working with age appropriate groups.
- Must be able to complete all swimming skills in correspondence with the lifeguarding exam.
- A self-starter ability to look for jobs that need to be done.
- Proper pool supervision techniques
- Must be able to work program hours as assigned.
- Principles and practices of lifeguard and water safety.
Ability To
- Accommodate flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.
- Observe assigned working hours.
- Prepare reports & records.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Learn Stanislaus County PAL and Service Area Methods, rules, policies, ordinances and requirements.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
Salary Range: $18.25/Hr. - $21.25/Hr. DOE.
Hours: Seasonal Part-time position, 15-40 hours per week. Hours may vary.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: may include, but are not limited to:
- Perform duties designated by the Pool Supervisor.
- Guard for recreation swim, swim lessons and special events.
- Responsible for following accepted lifesaving practices and standards.
- Responsible for meeting all program goals and objectives.
- Completes accurate documentation of accidents and incidents in pool and pool area.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean swimming pool environment.
- Responsible for maintaining personal fitness.
- Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Assist with opening and closing of pool.
- Maintain daily pool chemical balance.
- Maintain necessary records and reports.
- Clean and inspect pool deck on a daily basis.
- Fill in for cashier when needed.
