Administrative Nurse (Extra Help) - The established eligible list will be used for temporary extra help assignments for peak-load and unusual work situations.
The Administrative Nurse classification is distinguished from the Nurse Manager classification in that the Nurse Manager oversees nursing unit(s), including responsibility for unit operation, scheduling, position control, staffing, and coordination of the quality improvement process, whereas the Administrative Nurse classification is responsible for monitoring and coordinating administrative and/or nursing services.
The Administrative Nurse classification is further distinguished from the Assistant Nurse Manager classification in that the Assistant Nurse Manager provides oversight for patient care services of assigned team(s), whereas the Administrative Nurse has direct responsibility for managing the administrative and/or nursing services for a designated team/facility.
The Administrative Nurse classification is distinguished from the Healthcare Service Line Director classification in that the Healthcare Service Line Director plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates patient health care service delivery system(s), whereas the Administrative Nurse classification is a registered nurse who manages and coordinates services for a designated facility and/or team. The Administrative Nurse is responsible for supervising other nurses or other staff, overseeing patient care and treatment plans, and/or ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
The Administrative Nurse classification is distinguished from the Quality Improvement Manager classification in that the Quality Improvement Manager focuses on planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating various aspects of quality management, risk management, utilization management, patient education services, and related programs, whereas the Administrative Nurse focuses on providing administrative leadership and clinical oversight to manage outpatient nursing services and ensure the efficient operation for a designated team/facility.

Assessment
- Analyzes utilization of staff and distribution of workload with respect to organization, fiscal management and social, political, professional, and specialization trends in nursing practice.
- Assesses needs of clinical nursing staff in relation to human and environmental resources required for implementation of patient care programs.

Planning
- Participates on nursing and hospital committees.
- Influences institutional goal setting by identifying and communicating problems, pressures, and trends.
- Prepares annual budget for nursing.

Three (3) years of full-time Registered Nurse (RN) experience, of which two (2) years must include supervisory and/or administrative responsibilities.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree in Nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain an active California Registered Nurse License without restrictions and in good standing for the duration of employment in this classification.
- Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.
- *As a condition of employment, pursuant to California Government Code Sections 3100-3109 and Local Ordinance, all County of Santa Clara employees are designated Disaster Service Workers (DSWs), including extra help. A DSW is required to complete all assigned DSW-related training, and in the event of an emergency, return to work as ordered.
