Emergency Services Coordinator I/II is part of a career series for Emergency Services Coordinator I, II and III. Under direction, coordinates a variety of activities related to the collecting, analyzing, planning, and implementing of County emergency response systems, services, and requirements; coordinates personnel, communications, and governmental and local resources to assure adequate preparedness and response efforts during unusual or large emergencies; provides information to staff, outside organizations and the public regarding emergency response planning and systems; and does other related work as required.
This position includes tasks such as responding to emergency incidents to provide logistical support, representing the office or the emergency operations center at incidents or local emergency operations center as the agency representative Provides a communications link between the incident and the Emergency Operations Center. Knowledge of the National Incident Management System, Standard Emergency Management System, and the Incident Command System
Typical Tasks and Representative Duties
- Coordinates personnel, communications, and resources to promote adequate preparedness for natural, environmental, terrorist or other emergencies; coordinates planning activities with local, State and Federal personnel, agencies, programs and systems to assure a timely, organized and effective response to emergency disasters; coordinates the Emergency Operations Center and Joint Media Center during drills and activation; develops ongoing media contacts; prepares and distributes media releases related to emergencies.
- Provides information to County personnel, special districts, outside organizations and the public regarding emergency response planning and systems; serves as liaison to County personnel, emergency services response teams, outside agencies and the public regarding emergency management planning and implementation; refers inquiries to the appropriate personnel or departments as required.
- Responds to inquiries, resolves issues and conflicts and provides information concerning related laws, codes, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures; participates in training concerning emergency systems, practices and response procedures; attends and participates in various meetings and committees; prepares and delivers oral presentations as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of laws, codes, rules, regulations and pending legislation related to emergency preparedness systems including nuclear power plants, evacuation plans, earthquake response systems and other operations and activities as required; develops and modifies systems, programs, guides and procedures to assure effectiveness and compliance with County, State and Federal requirements as necessary.
- Assists in developing and maintaining County standard emergency operating procedures, policies and guidelines; assures response guides are current and procedures are understood by key personnel; coordinates the Emergency Alert System and participates in developing and conducting emergency response drills in compliance with guidelines.
- Utilizes a variety of emergency monitoring equipment and communication systems including radiation monitoring equipment, emergency alert system activation and broadcast equipment, satellite information and various warning and alert systems as required; operates a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software, maintains automated records, develops spreadsheets and generates a variety of reports.
- Prepares a variety of reports and documentation related to emergency systems and planning operations; participates in the budgetary planning of emergency management systems and procedures; develops reimbursement claims for the County; assists with determining feasibility of grant funding for emergency preparedness planning activities; assists in the preparation of grant funding applications and reports and maintenance of records.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Emergency Services Coordinator I classification is the entry-level position in the series. Incumbents work under close supervision, perform professional-level County-wide emergency planning duties and participate in assigned administrative programs.
The Emergency Services Coordinator II classification is the experienced-level position in the series. Incumbents work under general supervision, perform duties required in the planning and implementation of County-wide emergency services and organize other administrative programs assigned to them.

This is an entry level position, and the ideal candidate does not need a background in emergency management, just the inherent talents and attitude to excel in the position.
Education and Experience
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Emergency Services Coordinator I: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in emergency management, public safety, business or public administration or a related field. Emergency Services Coordinator II: The same as above plus one year of experience at the level of Emergency Services Coordinator I.
Supplemental Information
Must be able to work after hours, weekends, and endure long shifts including multiple days of shift work during emergencies.

Pay: $72,737.60 - $109,200.00 per year
