OC Operations & Maintenance
OC Operations and Maintenance (O&M) is a service area within OC Public Works (OCPW) whose goal is to serve the citizens of Orange County by providing a safe environment and enhanced quality of life through maintenance of public roads, flood control channels, and bikeways. O&M provides a variety of services to Orange County's unincorporated areas and is responsible for maintaining 350 miles of roadway, 65 bridges, 380 miles of flood control channels, 6 dams, 10 pumping stations, and 26 basins. O&M also provides public works services for cities via service contracts. In addition, O&M plays a crucial role in responding to the needs of the public during and after emergency incidents, such as storms, wildfires, and mudslides.

The immediate vacancies for Public Works Maintenance Worker I will be within the Heavy Equipment Operations Unit and Traffic Operations Unit.
Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to, road stenciling, curb painting, raised pavement marker (RPM) installations, hand-patch asphalt, concrete patching, graffiti removal, vegetation trimming, trash or debris removal, sign installation and repair, fencing which includes pouring foundations, installing or repairing gates, and arc welding.
CORE COMPETENCIES
The successful candidate will demonstrate one (1) year of experience performing construction or related laboring duties requiring the use of hand and power tools, motors, engines, compressors, or pumps.
In addition, the ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the following core competencies:
Technical Knowledge & Experience
- Performing heavy manual laboring tasks safely and efficiently
- Performing construction work assignments, using construction tools and equipment
- Performing landscape maintenance, vegetation removal and trimming, debris cleaning, and maintaining road rights-of-way
- Performing safe work practices with the appropriate use of tools, equipment, and materials, traffic control, utility construction, and construction site situational awareness
- Following strict guidelines for traffic safety regulations
- Knowledgeable about Public Works, and State and Federal regulations, including reporting requirements
- Effectively communicating with supervisors, co-workers and the public
- Following written and oral instructions and schedules
- Working cooperatively with others
- Maintaining accurate written documentation

REQUIRED LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Driver License, Class C, before date of appointment, is required for most assignments. RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
