Job Responsibilities – Appraiser II - $30.49 hourly

The successful candidate will perform intermediate level technical work performing duties concerned with determining real and personal property values for equalization purposes. Responsibilities include conducting field surveys of real and personal property to determine the true cash value by inspecting properties and noting factors that affect their value; compiling data on construction costs, sales prices, leases, capitalization rates, gross rental multipliers and other factors affecting real and personal property values; calculating assessment values from collected data and field surveys; and explaining assessment and equalization practices to the public.

Minimum Requirements – Appraiser II

High School graduate or equivalent. Two years of successful work experience equivalent to an Appraiser I level or graduation from an accredited college or university and one year work experience equivalent to an Appraiser I level. Ability to communicate with the public, discuss complex tax problems and work independently without supervision is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license.

MCAO (Level II) certification by the Michigan State Tax Commission, State Licensed, Certified General or Certified Residential Appraiser is strongly preferred.

Job Responsibilities – Appraiser III - $35.02 hourly

This position is the most advanced level of appraiser within the Bureau of Equalization. The successful candidate must be skilled in all property tax matters and must be able to appraise the most complex properties and governmental units within the County. Responsibilities include instructing less experienced departmental staff in the principles and methods of real and personal property appraising; performing the most complicated and sophisticated property appraisals such as large commercial or industrial enterprises; dealing with in-depth statistical analysis of informational needs to be processed; and defending of work before local assessors.

Minimum Requirements – Appraiser III

High School graduate or equivalent. Five years of increasingly more responsible experience as a property appraiser, three of which must be equivalent to the Appraiser II level. A thorough knowledge of assessment administration and the ability to communicate and explain more complex taxing issues with the public, assessing and equalization personnel as well as the ability to communicate and interact successfully with the public, elected officials, and staff of other governmental units is required. Must have the ability to gather and analyze data from multiple sources to objectively reach conclusions regarding property values and have skill in making sketches of properties and their physical characteristics. Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license.

MAAO (Level III) Certification by the Michigan State Tax Commission, State Licensed, Certified General or Certified Residential Appraiser is strongly preferred.
