POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for assigned cases that may include adult pre-sentence investigations, pre-parole investigations and supervision of probationers and parolees in accordance with Court requirements and established professional standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts pre-sentence and pre-parole investigations obtaining pertinent information both social and economic from defendants, complainants, police officers, relatives and others who may have a bearing on the case.
- Prepares summaries and reports of investigations for their supervisor’s review.
- Attends and presents the information at hearings before the Court.
- Administers a validated risk and needs assessment tool at initial contact and every 6 months throughout supervision.
- Employs the Risk-Needs-Responsivity Model to match level of services to identified risk and need of offender.
- Supervises probationers and parolees, in the community, to assist them in an effective rehabilitation, utilizing evidence based supervision practices to address the criminogenic needs of offenders
- Refers offenders to available community based resources to address identified criminogenic needs.
- Meets with probationers and parolees in their homes, place of employment and/or in the office.
- Meets with their supervisor weekly for case and policy reviews.
- Prepares reports concerning the assignment and maintains records.
- Reports unusual conditions or questionable items to supervisor.
- Arrests and transports probationers and parolees who are in violation.
- Must complete and maintain annual certification in the departmentally approved defensive tactics and verbal de-escalation systems.
- Required to participate in and certify in Physical Conflict Control Training, which involves training in arrest/transportation techniques and self-defense; which involves physical dexterity including the ability to subdue non-compliant and or potentially hostile offenders.
- Performs similar or related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

- Bachelor's Degree in behavioral sciences.
- Candidates with a Master's Degree in the social sciences or two years’ full-time counseling experience in an approved social agency will be considered for appointment at the full performance Probation Officer level.
- Must possess minimum computer skills.
- Possess good telephone and communications skills.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have own car.
