What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Director position at Core Talent Services?
Director of Marketing Birmingham, AL | Full-Time | On-Site
About the Company
Birmingham, Alabama has long been the heartbeat of the flatbed transportation industry in the Southeast. This role is with a growing flatbed and logistics organization competing in one of the most dynamic freight markets in the country. With fleets spanning over-dimensional, heavy haul, and specialized freight — and customer bases concentrated in steel, lumber, building materials, and industrial sectors — this company is looking for a marketing leader who understands the industry from the inside out and can build a brand that attracts drivers, wins customers, and fuels growth.
Position Overview
The Director of Marketing will serve as the strategic and operational marketing leader for the organization, responsible for building and executing the company's brand, digital, and communications strategy across all channels. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires equal parts strategic vision and executional excellence. The ideal candidate has walked the floors of a terminal, understands what moves flatbed freight, and can translate that knowledge into compelling messaging that resonates with shippers, owner-operators, and enterprise customers alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own the company's annual marketing strategy, budget, and KPIs, aligning marketing initiatives with revenue and growth objectives
- Lead brand positioning and messaging across all channels — digital, print, trade, social, and events — ensuring consistency and differentiation in a competitive flatbed market
- Oversee digital marketing efforts including SEO/SEM, email marketing, paid media, website management, and social media presence
- Build and manage customer acquisition and retention marketing programs targeting shippers in steel, construction, lumber, oil and gas, and heavy industrial sectors
- Lead driver and owner-operator recruitment marketing in coordination with the operations and HR teams, developing campaigns that speak authentically to the professional driver community
- Manage relationships with external agencies, designers, media partners, and trade publications
- Represent the brand at industry trade shows, conferences, and events including ATA, FlatbedNation, and regional freight events
- Analyze marketing performance data and report regularly to executive leadership on campaign effectiveness, ROI, and pipeline contribution
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, operations, and recruiting to ensure marketing supports business development and talent acquisition goals
- Develop thought leadership content that positions the company as an authority in flatbed and specialized freight
Qualifications
- 5 years of progressive marketing experience required, with demonstrated growth into leadership roles
- 3 years of experience in flatbed transportation required — candidates without direct flatbed or specialized freight industry experience will not be considered
- Deep understanding of flatbed freight operations, customer segments (steel, lumber, oil & gas, construction), and the competitive carrier landscape
- Proven track record building and executing multi-channel marketing strategies that drive measurable business results
- Strong digital marketing fluency including SEO, paid search, social media advertising, and marketing automation platforms
- Experience with driver-facing and owner-operator recruitment marketing strongly preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling content for both B2B customers and professional drivers
- Proficiency in marketing analytics tools (Google Analytics, HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar)
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field required; MBA a plus
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Birmingham, AL area
What Sets the Ideal Candidate Apart
- You've marketed to both shippers and drivers and understand that they require entirely different voices
- You know the difference between a step deck and a lowboy and why it matters to a customer
- You've built a brand from a position of growth, not just maintained one
- You can operate independently, build a team, and present confidently to executive leadership
- You have existing relationships in the flatbed and specialized freight community
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Performance-based annual bonus
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and holidays
- Mileage and travel reimbursement for industry events
Salary : $75,000 - $110,000
