General Functions:
The Accounting Technician performs a vital role within CITC's Accounting Department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. This position computes, classifies, records, and verifies financial data while maintaining accounts payable records and supporting the organization's financial operations. Working in partnership with our people, the Accounting Technician helps develop opportunities that fulfill our endless potential by providing essential financial support services. The role requires strong attention to detail, mathematical skills, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records in a fast-paced environment.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting Technician I

  • Process financial documents within a computerized accounting system, including transactions, invoices, checks, account statements, authorizations, journal vouchers, and purchase orders.
  • Compile and sort invoices and checks, reviewing for appropriate documentation and approval before processing.
  • Verify and post details of business transactions to the General Ledger ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in the annual preparation of 1099 forms and maintain W-9 files for vendor compliance.
  • Contact vendors to assist in collection for outstanding invoices and resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Compose grammatically correct letters, memoranda, and other reports as requested.
  • Distribute checks for signature and/or delivery according to established procedures.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, customers, clients, and CITC staff.
  • Participate in scheduled internal/external meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform all related tasks as assigned.

Accounting Technician II

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of Accounting Technician I with an advanced level of proficiency.
  • Process monthly invoices for CITC and subsidiaries ensuring timely and accurate payment.
  • Post monthly invoices for CITC and affiliates in the accounting system.
  • Review and post employee trip reports, vendor and utility reconciliations, and follow up with outstanding transactions.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of accounts payable sub-ledger to general ledger balance.
  • Research and solve payment discrepancies to ensure accurate financial records.

Accounting Technician III

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of Accounting Technician I and II with an advanced level of proficiency.
  • Prepare monthly payables aging report that reconciles to the general ledger.
  • Review and post employee credit card reconciliations and follow up with outstanding transactions.
  • Prepare account analysis as needed or requested by management.
  • Perform other tasks as needed and assigned.
Job Specifications:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with vendors and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures coupled with strong accounts payable skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, percentages, and graphs.
  • Ability to enter data using 10 keys by touch with speed and accuracy.
  • Works well in a fast-paced and heavy workload environment.
  • General knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.

Accounting Technician I

  • High school diploma or GED.

Accounting Technician II

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years data entry experience, including 10 keys by touch.

Accounting Technician III

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years data entry experience, including 10 keys by touch.
  • Two (2) years accounts payable experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in business administration or finance with an emphasis in accounting.
  • Two (2) years of related professional experience.
  • General ledger reconciliation experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Sage Intacct and/or Stampli.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.
  • The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
