Sheet Metal Foreman / Lead HVAC Installer

Control Tec Mechanical LLC is looking for an experienced Sheet Metal Foreman / Lead HVAC Installer to join our team serving commercial projects throughout the Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia region.

We are looking for someone who is an experienced commercial sheet metal installer first, but also has the knowledge, judgment, and leadership ability to run work in the field.

This is a hands-on working foreman position. You will be expected to work alongside the crew while also taking responsibility for jobsite organization, manpower, quality, productivity, and day-to-day coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal installation in the field
• Read and work from mechanical drawings, plans, specifications, and shop drawings
• Lay out ductwork and determine the most efficient sequence of installation
• Direct and coordinate sheet metal installers, helpers, and other field labor
• Work hands-on with the crew installing ductwork, fittings, equipment connections, hangers, supports, and related systems
• Plan daily work and assign tasks to crew members
• Manage manpower effectively and keep the crew productive
• Monitor progress and keep work moving according to schedule
• Coordinate installation with other trades and respond to changing field conditions
• Identify conflicts, missing information, or field problems early and communicate them to project management
• Make practical field decisions and solve installation problems as they arise
• Track materials and communicate material or equipment needs before they delay the job
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
• Ensure installations meet company quality standards, project specifications, and applicable codes
• Help train and develop less-experienced installers and laborers
• Communicate professionally with general contractors, customers, inspectors, project managers, and other trades
• Take ownership of the job and help drive it through completion

Qualifications

The right candidate should have substantial hands-on experience with commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal installation and be capable of independently managing a job or significant portion of a job.

You should be able to walk onto a project, understand the drawings and scope, organize a crew, determine what needs to happen next, and get the work built correctly without needing constant direction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Several years of commercial sheet metal and HVAC duct installation experience
• Previous foreman, lead installer, lead mechanic, or crew-lead experience strongly preferred
• Strong ability to read mechanical drawings, ductwork plans, and shop drawings
• Experience laying out and installing commercial duct systems
• Ability to direct and supervise installers, helpers, and laborers
• Strong understanding of jobsite sequencing and coordination with other trades
• Ability to recognize field conflicts and develop practical solutions
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Ability to plan work ahead rather than simply react to problems as they occur
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to jobsites throughout the MD/DC/VA region
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of commercial sheet metal installation
• Working knowledge of Spanish is a strong plus, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking crew members in the field

A good fit for this position is someone who can be given a set of drawings, a crew, and a scope of work and be trusted to run the installation, solve problems, communicate what they need, and get the job done.

You should be willing to lead from the front. This is not a position where the foreman stands around watching other people work. We are looking for someone who can manage the job while still putting on a tool belt and working alongside the crew when that is what the job requires.
