What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sheet Metal Mechanic position at Hopewell Sheet Metal Manufacturing?
About Hopewell Sheet Metal Manufacturing
Hopewell Sheet Metal Manufacturing is a trusted provider of quality custom sheet metal for the trades. From our 30,000-square-foot facility in Hagerstown, we have served the Mid-Atlantic for 45 years with craftsmanship, reliability, and efficiency. Our small, dedicated team of 25 takes ownership, pitches in where needed, and grows with the business.
What You Will Do
We are looking for an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic to fabricate HVAC ductwork and custom assemblies for trade contractors. You will assemble sheet metal components into finished products, operate our automated equipment, inspect your work, and prepare jobs for shipment.
This is a hands-on, physical role in an indoor, climate-controlled manufacturing setting.
You Will Be Accountable For
- Working safely every day and calling out unsafe conditions if you see them
- Reading and interpreting shop and customer drawings and work orders
- Lay out, cut, form, and assemble custom sheet metal products
- Operating automated equipment, such as our coil line and plasma tables
- Looking for better ways to get the work done and share them with the team
- Training apprentices on safe, accurate work habits and lead by example
- Keeping the shop and our equipment clean and organized
What We Are Looking For
- Two or more years of sheet metal fabrication experience. Shop, manufacturing, HVAC fabrication experience, or knowledge of SMACNA standards is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail. You read work orders and drawings carefully and fabricate accurately.
- Pride in your work. You measure twice, check your own work, and are never quite done making things better. If you aren’t sure, you ask instead of guess.
- A team player. You share what you know and celebrate wins. When something goes wrong, you help fix it instead of pointing fingers.
Physical Requirements
This is a physical, hands-on job. You must be able to do the following safely, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Lift and carry up to 35 pounds. You will do this regularly throughout the day, and it should not be a struggle.
- Lift overhead with both arms. You will lift materials up to 35 pounds above your head using both arms.
- Squat, crouch, kneel, and bend. Some tasks require working low to the ground, reaching into tight spaces, or moving in unusual positions.
- Stay on your feet. You will stand, walk, and move around the shop for most of your shift.
- Work with your hands. You will handle tools, sheet metal, and equipment that require a steady grip and good hand control.
Compensation
Pay range: $23 to $30 per hour, based on experience and skills.
What We Offer
- Competitive Pay and Comprehensive benefits. Bonus eligibility, PTO, health insurance, 401(k) with company contribution, short-term disability and life insurance, and a Sam’s Club membership.
- Room to grow. Your experience will be valued, and you will have the chance to help shape newer team members.
- Work that matters. We make real things that keep people warm, cool, and safe.
- Stability. The company has been steady for 45 years.
- Climate-controlled shop
