The Position

Bargaining Unit: Local 21 - Supervisory Management

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff enjoys an outstanding reputation as one of the most professional, progressive agencies in the United States. The Office is the largest law enforcement agency in Contra Costa with over 1,100 sworn and professional employees dedicated to providing the highest level of law enforcement and customer services.

The Office of the Sheriff is recruiting to fill one (1) Sheriff's Director of Support Services position within the Administrative Services Bureau.

The Director of Support Services will analyze and evaluate contracts and grants, while maintaining documentation in accordance with County policy and government regulations. We are looking for individuals who are proactive leaders who can multitask and demonstrate their ability both learn and mentor in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.

  • Reviewing policies and procedures to ensure compliance; ensuring that practices conform to regulations, achieving objectives within constraints
  • Staying current on the relevant laws, regulations, contracts, and binding agreements that pertain to the position and the Office of the Sheriff.

Minimum Qualifications

License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, public administration, administration of justice or a closely related field.

Experience: Three years of full-time or its equivalent experience managing, administering support services, and performing staff analysis in a large department, institution or public agency.

Substitution: Successful completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university which included courses in English Composition, Social Science, Behavioral Science and Mathematics or Statistics and two (2) additional years of the required experience may be substituted for the required Bachelor's degree.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience processing and maintaining contracts and grants
  • Experience supporting law enforcement or public safety operations
  • Experience developing, monitoring and maintaining a budget for a large department, institution or public agency
  • Experience writing reports for a Sheriff's Office

Selection Process

  • Application filing and evaluation: To be considered, all applicants must submit a complete online application at http://www.contracosta.gov/hr , including the required supplemental questionnaire, by the final filing deadline. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates best meet the minimum qualifications and will move forward to the next phase of the recruitment process.
  • Virtual Oral Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited via email to complete a HireVue On Demand video interview. The assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Director of Support Services classification. These may include, but are not limited to: Attention to Detail, Professional Integrity & Ethics, Displaying Ownership and Accountability, and Building & Maintaining Relationships. (Weighted 100%).
  • Departmental Interview: The department will contact individuals referred to schedule an interview.

The virtual assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely): May 1, 2026

The virtual assessment will be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment, as well as computer or mobile device with a camera.

Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to participate in the selection process.

CONVICTION HISTORY

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
