About the Employer

The Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) is a unique public education agency. One of 58 counties in California, Contra Costa County serves the 11th largest public-school student population in the state, supporting approximately 169,394 students. Officially established in 1932, CCCOE has a long history of providing direct services to some of the county’s most vulnerable students, including young people who are incarcerated, experiencing homelessness, in foster care, or who have severe physical or emotional challenges. CCCOE also provides support services to schools and school districts throughout Contra Costa County, services that can be handled more effectively and economically on a regional basis rather than by each of the county’s 286 schools or 18 school districts. These services range from budget approval and fiscal support to technology infrastructure and communications support. In addition, CCCOE provides high-level professional development opportunities for educators throughout the county. Job Summary

Job Summary

Under general supervision, provides crisis intervention and consultative strategies to students, teachers, instructional assistants, and other staff as planned by the Principal; provide support, monitoring, and training using behavior management techniques, intervention strategies, de-escalation techniques, anger management and problem solving for students with behavioral challenges; observes, monitors, and records student behavior; and performs related duties as assigned. This position will assist all students with behavior needs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Requirements: • A high school diploma or equivalent. • Two (2) years of college level coursework in child development or related field (a written proficiency test may be required for applicants that do not meet the post high school graduation or AA requirements) • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience working with children with special education needs who have cognitive, emotional disabilities in an organized setting. • Bilingual skills may be required. • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory Physical Strength Testing results. Licenses and Certifications: • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency may be required for certain departments. • Successfully complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training by the end of probationary period and renew annually. Applications will only be considered complete when the EDJOIN application is complete (including all supplemental questions) and the attachments listed below are included.
