The Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) is a unique public education agency. One of 58 counties in California, Contra Costa County serves the 11th largest public-school student population in the state, supporting approximately 169,394 students. Officially established in 1932, CCCOE has a long history of providing direct services to some of the county’s most vulnerable students, including young people who are incarcerated, experiencing homelessness, in foster care, or who have severe physical or emotional challenges. Job Summary

Job Summary

Under general supervision, assists a certificated teacher with providing instruction to individual and/or small groups of students with learning, emotional, physical, cognitive, and/or behavioral disabilities in various subject-matter areas; provides physical care to students with severe physical disabilities; assists in implementing student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); observes, monitors, and records student performance and behavior; performs administrative functions in support of classroom activities; and performs related duties as assigned. This position will assist with classroom management by consistently assisting the teacher to control and manage the classroom. Encourage student learning, be able to work well with students both individually and in small groups and motivate and encourage students to achieve.

Requirements / Qualifications

Requirements: • A high school diploma or equivalent. • Two (2) years of college level coursework in child development or related field. • One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience working with children with special education needs in an organized setting. • A written proficiency test is required for applicants who do not meet one of the following requirements: o Verification of 48 semester units post high school, OR o Possession of an A.A. degree or higher • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory Physical Strength Testing results. • Bilingual skills may be required. Licenses and Certifications: • Valid California Driver's License. • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency may be required for certain departments. • Successfully complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training by the end of probationary period and renew annually.
