We are excited to announce that the Contra Costa County Public Defender’s Office is hiring one (1) Deputy Public Defender Immigration Removal Defense Attorney to be a part of our Stand Together Contra Costa (STCC) program. STCC is a collaborative program run by the Public Defender’s Office which provides vigorous and cutting-edge removal defense services to Contra Costa County residents at no charge. Duties primarily include representing detained and non-detained indigent non-citizens in removal proceedings before the immigration courts. However, STCC provides a full range of horizontal and vertical representation which includes SIJS, U Visas, and family-based petitions before USCIS for non-citizens in removal proceedings. Additionally, STCC represents clients before the Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Courts of Appeal, and Federal District Courts, as necessary. Spanish-speaking is preferred, but not required. Come join a one-of-a-kind program dedicated to innovative and robust representation of indigent immigrants!
We Are Looking For Someone Who Is
The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six months.
Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Registration: Active membership in the State Bar of California.
Experience for Immigration Defender: One (1) year of full-time experience practicing immigration removal defense.
