Continental Tide is searching for skilled Marine Electricians III for our Fleet Services for our Fleet Services in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repairs, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.
Essential duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment.
- Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
- Sett up, check, and correct operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications.
- Assemble multi-pin connectors and fiber optic connections.
- Construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapt standard equipment and troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
- Perform component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose the problem and provide most cost effective recommendation for completing repairs.
- Perform and/or verify mechanical alignments.
- Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
- Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
- Inspect and tests electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections, testing devices.
- Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.
- Conduct various tests or experiments which may require modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
- Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
- Identify and make recommendation to shop superintendent regarding problem areas in contract work items.
- Overhaul A.C. & D.C systems. Power generation, distribution and users.
- Lay out, pull, and splice wires.
- Install and hook up of lighting fixtures.
- Circuit labeling, testing and troubleshooting.
- Write simple purchase requisitions for purchase department.
- Instruct helpers, apprentices, or less skillful electricians.
- Take and record motor and generator thrust, clearance, and alignment measures.
- Identify materials and parts required for job performance & selection of substitute electrical components when necessary.
- Proactively problem-solve, write reports and give suggestions for solving those issues.
- Perform additional duties outside of your standard responsibilities as needed to support production and project completion.
- Must be Copper Connector Certified & possess fiber optic experience.*
- Target of seven (7) plus years of practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.
- Possess possess NAVSEA Cableway and Connectorization Certifications.
- Technical expertise with power generation and transmission equipment, motorized valve actuators, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fiber optics and integrated network system experience.
- Candidates must possess a high school diploma, GED or industrial school certificate.
- Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications.
- Be able to read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
- Repair and replace cables and connectors.
- Participating in the installation and maintenance of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
- Must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
- Must have or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance and must be able to obtain DBIDS and be able to access local shipyards and US Navy bases.
- Must be able to understand, read, and communicate in English as required for job instructions, safety information, and team communication.
- Must possess basic hand tools.
- Must be able to pass an Audiogram, Respirator Fit Test, & physical.
- Travel of up to 25% may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
- Certified in 'Multi-pin' Connectors IAW MIL-STD-20035A (SA).*
- Certified in Fiber Optic: CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC.*
- Target of 7 plus years of experience as a Marine Electrician with 3 or more years of previous supervisory responsibilities.*
- Experience with maintaining budgets and material Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of ferries, dredges, and military vessels.
- Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Item requirements.
- Certified to accomplish wire way inspections in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus.
- Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
- Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
- Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.
- Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.
- Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
- Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.
- May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
- Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.
- May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.
- Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold.
- Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on the task requirements.
- Must be physically able to ride ships at sea for extended periods, including withstanding ship motion and working in various sea conditions.
