We are seeking a highly skilled Pipefitter II to join our shipyard team in Norfolk, VA. This role is responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, and testing of piping systems aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working in shipbuilding or ship repair environments and a thorough understanding of NAVSEA standards and shipboard systems.

We are seeking a highly skilled Pipefitter II to join our shipyard team in Norfolk, VA. This role is responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, and testing of piping systems aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working in shipbuilding or ship repair environments and a thorough understanding of NAVSEA standards and shipboard systems.
Duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Lay out, fabricate, fit, and install pipe and tubing for a variety of fluid, drain, and pneumatic systems in accordance with drawings, MILSPECs, and NAVSEA standards for various systems (fluid, drain, fuel, hydraulic, air, ect.).
- Install structural supports for piping systems and equipment.
- Read and interpret maritime blueprints and specifications (standard and metric).
- Perform basic pipe bending using hand or crank-style pipe benders.
- Fit and install flanges, valves, and related piping components.
- Execute tack welding as needed for assembly fit-up.
- Perform hydrostatic pressure testing of installed systems following approved procedures.
- Prepare and install system modifications (TEMPALTs, SHIPALTs, ORDALTs) in accordance with official directives and work instructions.
- Pre-fabricate piping assemblies in a shop environment based on removed components and work instructions.
- Perform brazing and operate gas-free equipment safely and effectively.
- Plan and lay out piping systems allowing systems for system specs, structural penetrations, and physical obstructions.
- Measure, cut, and bore holes in decks and bulkheads for piping system installations.
- Operate shop equipment to cut, thread, and shape pipes and fittings.
- Tests completed installations using hydrostatic or similar pressure testing techniques to ensure system integrity.
- Identify and select appropriate piping materials for specific system requirements based on technical drawings.
- Support additional duties as assigned in support of production or maintenance goals.
- Perform additional duties outside of your standard responsibilities as needed to support production and project completion.
- Must possess a REAL ID or U.S. Passport.
- 3-5 years of maritime or shipyard pipefitting experience required.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items, MILSPECs, and shipyard work instructions.
- Strong understanding of shipboard mechanical systems and installations.
- Must be able to obtain security clearance or meet access requirements for naval shipyards, if applicable.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job.
- Must be able to pass an Audiogram & Respirator Fit Test.
- Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information both verbally & electronically with customers & supervisors.
- Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
- Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
- Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.
- Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.
- Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
- Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.
- May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
- Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.
- May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.
- Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold.
- Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on the task requirements.
- Must be physically able to ride ships at sea for extended periods, including withstanding ship motion and working in various sea conditions.
