About the role:
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, support, and develop a team of CAD Technicians.
- Communicate performance expectations and align individual efforts with company goals.
- Conduct regular team meetings to foster collaboration and team cohesion.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and recognition to promote employee development.
- Create and maintain active development/work plans for each team member.
- Guide recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new CAD staff.
Drawing & Drafting Oversight
- Enforce company standards for all CAD drawings (project and non-project related).
- Support the Sales Teams by producing shop drawings as needed.
- Utilize AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, and Excel daily to complete and review drawings.
- Ensure all standard and typical drawings and templates are current and accurate.
Process & Software Management
- Oversee and optimize the use of drafting software across the team.
- Collaborate with the Computer Systems Analyst to maintain and improve automation tools.
- Partner with R&D to develop models for new or revised products.
Resource Planning & Reporting
- Balance workloads and ensure efficient distribution of project-specific tasks.
- Provide performance reports to senior management as required.
- Support organizational planning through strategic input on team capacity and resources.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between CAD Technicians, Sales, R&D, and other internal teams.
- Work with external vendors to meet project drawing needs as necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Vocational/Technical degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of drafting experience.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong math and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans and technical drawings.
- Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in engineering or construction-related industries.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, procedures and shop detail requirements.
- Working knowledge of steel fabrication welds and materials.
- Strong familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Tekla Structures.
